ANZAC Day services have been marred in Melbourne with a shocking attack on a man on his way to pay tribute to his war veteran father.

Two men punched the 65-year-old as he made his way to a Dawn Service.

Police say the pair demanded his mobile phone before attacking him.

The man's being treated in hospital.
