HERE'S proof that South Sydney's season is shaping as a write-off.-daily telegraph

It's been no smooth ride for the winless Rabbitohs - but their road to ruin deepened yesterday when a real-life car crash disrupted training.

And the victim was none other than luckless recruit Craig Wing, whose opening-round injury put Souths straight on the skids.

Wing could only slump his sore left shoulder upon discovering an errant driver had slammed into his parked car outside Erskineville Oval.

To make matters worse, Wing's wheels - a silver SAAB - was on loan from a friend. He is currently between cars while searching for a sponsor vehicle.

"It hasn't been the best couple of months has it?" the 28-year-old sighed as he surveyed the damage.

His battling teammates expressed similar sentiments - albeit through bursts of laughter. A loud bang at 3.20pm heralded the latest misfortune to beset Souths' miserable season.

Wing was watching the team's final ballwork session before today's flight to Brisbane when it boomed across the training paddock, stopping players in their tracks.

The injured half immediately wandered to the Fox St entrance, where the prang was in full view.

Opposite sat a badly damaged black sedan. Alongside it was one of about 20 cars parked on the street - the one belonging to Wing.

The sedan's driver, known only as Nick, had swerved to avoid an oncoming van and slammed into the right-hand side of Wing's car.

It sustained a hefty dent and scratches to the driver's-side door.

"The other bloke was speeding down the street and I had to move out of the way otherwise it would have been a head-on," Nick said.

"I had no idea this was where Souths train."

The van's driver was visibly shaken, perhaps more so when he realised the accident had narrowly missed Audis belonging to fearsome Kiwi duo Roy Asotasi and David Kidwell.

Although exasperated, Wing accepted the mishap in good spirits. "Sometimes you just can't win," he said.

Four police officers arrived on the scene shortly before the end of training and interviewed all three parties - including Wing.

"They didn't ask for any autographs," Wing joked.

A smiling Asotasi said: "You just can't take a trick at the moment, Wingy."

Yesterday's car accident is the second to strike the Rabbitohs recently. Injured prop Michael Greenfield was also involved in one, but emerged unscathed.

I hope those "sponsor vehicles" come under the cap..... :o

Can you imagine how embarrassing that would be - worst performing team in the comp (and in the last 10 years) and cheating the salary cap?
