Getting to know you: Pen nib up or down

A question for the ages. Myself, I'm nib down to allow for continual ink flow.

it annoys the heck out of me when people store my biros or nikkos nib up. i am a man in need of speed. my ink must be available on demand, at a moments notice

I don't have a pen holder? They lay scattered around the house, but amazingly enough never near the phone....

BUt I think i'd be nib down if I had to!

I've had too many messy ink leak clean-ups to deal with - I prefer to deal with pens that take a few seconds to work than to waste even more time having to clean up a potential ink hazard!

Nib down.
The feathers on my quill get crushed if I store them the other way.

I am a clicky-pen fanatic.  I love to pull them out of my pocket, *click* and then write away.  I have the power of the pen... mwa ha ha.

With a clicky-pen (read retractable) there is no need to worry about nibs when they are safely stored away in the pen proper

I've found even clicky-pens can leak all over the place when stored nib-down.

But Fampa - what about the effect of having pen up or down? Does it affect ink flow?

Use retractable Gel pens & since the pocket clip is at the top............................................point down

Or you could just do what I do - the old thumbnail dipped in tar

I am compelled to commence an independant study.

I always have two pens, same brand and colour in my pocket - free ones from the credit union, I will endeavour to engage in an comparison test.  2 new pens, each labelled differently and stored differently.  Using a different one each day I will determine which one runs out first.  (I normally get the see through pens so I can update you all on the progress of my investigations).

this experiment sounds too worthwhile to be in the dribble bar...
