iPhone
Not sure if anyone on here is interested in the iPhone, but for those who are,you can register your interest in one via Optus or Vodafone at their websites and in store.
Registering your interest for lack of a better expression puts you at the front of the queue.
Vodafone are going to have them on a pre paid option as well as post paid but no handset prices or plans have been announced.
I know for a fact Telstra have no plans to bring them out onto the Next G network for atleast 6 months.I assume this is because they are a new product and they are untested on Australian GSM and 3G networks.

I'm 50/50 on them.I need a new phone and a new ipod, but I'm not sure if I want both in one unit or not.Like what if it needs repairing?I'm without both.Registered at Vodafone as they're doing pre paid incase I want one but yeah, not sure what they're going to be like on Australian networks.

My big hate with the iPhone is that for so long, Apple makes everything closed and difficult to load programs. The iPhone was launched in the US on a profit sharing arrangement - for every call you made, Apple made money. They also refused to give access to programmers to load their own software on the phones. With the iPhone 3G you'll be able to get software, but only through the Apple portal. Real restriction of trade and development.
cronk7 i guess if u wanted to get an ipod and a phone then yes get the iphone ull save alot of money in the long run.

The AppStore won't scale up. ATM Apple's excuse is to ensure 3rd party applications won't deliver a reduced user experience. I'm fine with is because it ensures (or at least try to) that no apps will hog the iPhone's minimal RAM, no porn app, no malicious app, etc. But should the iPhone become a dominant platform, Apple will have to open it up. The AppStore if kept at its current form will trigger anti-monopolistic charges.
I doubt Apple will be able to defend it like they have with iTunes Store and iPods, because iTunes Store is not the sole source of content for iPods and AppStore currently is the sole source for apps.

Will be interesting to see what happens.I reckon everyone who wants one will race out and get one in the first week or so they are on the market.Stores will most likely file massive 2nd orders and will end up with excess stock because who did want one has got one. They are abit of a niche market in my mind. The more I think about it,the more I like having my phone and ipod as seperate things.Knowing my luck,as soon as I've got both in one,it'll stuff up on me and I'll be left without both!
Another problem will most likely be that if it does break down,it'll be sent to Sydney for repairs at their new store,or you'll be expected to get minor issues with it sorted there yourself.

And don't forget they don't work with Flash websites, don't record video, clear cover breaks easily (replacement in the US is $250 from what I've been told).

I really have to say that the only way that Boofa played at that kick from Orford was if he cracked a fat.

For those thinking of getting an iPhone, have a quick look at the below from C|Net and decide if not having these features is worth the wow factor?
Multimedia Messaging: Almost every other phone on the market has the ability to send images to other phones via multimedia messaging, or MMS. Yes, you can still email those photos, but MMS is such a basic feature that it should've been in the iPhone from the start.
Copy and paste: Again, this is such a basic feature. Having copy and paste makes it easier to type out text messages and emails.
Video recording: In the world of mobile video, Qik and YouTube, it's a shame the iPhone doesn't have video-recording capabilities. Yes, the quality won't be that great, but it should be an option anyway.
Voice command: For a touchscreen phone, we think voice command and voice dialling would've been a great feature add-on for the iPhone. Perhaps this will be added via a third-party app, but we would really prefer this to be a native setting.
Bluetooth flexibility: Right now, all you can use Bluetooth on the iPhone for is headset voice calls, and that's it. This is sufficient for most people, sure, but we would like for Apple to open up the Bluetooth profiles for the iPhone. This means we would like stereo Bluetooth and A2DP for streaming music wirelessly, Bluetooth tethering so we can use the iPhone as a modem, and finally we would like to have Bluetooth file transfer protocol so we can transfer files to and from the iPhone.
