With The Ashes series about to get underway so too is the Barmy Army Charity drive.

Each tour the Barmy Army undertake a number of charity events to raise money for local chairties why at the same time having a little bit of fun.

In Melbourne two charity events will take place and I encourage everyone if you can attend any of the events please do.

The last Ashes tour saw over $15,000 dollars raised for local Melbourne charities and it is hoped that more will be raised this time.

Two cricket matches have been organised in Melbourne

The first is against The Fanatics

Fri 22nd Dec – BACC v Fanatics 4th Ashes Test,
venue Rupertswood CC, 3 Macedon Street Sunbury

the Second

Sun 24th Dec – BACC v Middle Park CC, Albert Park. Midday meet

The days are a blast and a lot of fun to be had on and off the pitch and the best part is local charities benefit from it.

Hope to see you there.

Looks like the Christmas Eve match made the Herald Sun:

Army can't bat and bowl

THE Barmy Army just can't take a trick.

The best of the army took on the Middle Park Cricket Club at Albert Park yesterday in a 30-over match to salvage some national pride.
Chasing the "Convicts" 165, the "Pommies" lost 26 wickets for 142.

Their performance off the ground was far more impressive. About 700 spectators drank 50 slabs and three barrels of beer -- much to the delight of the Middle Park club treasurer.

Londoner Dave Burmage got to bed at 7am but was up a few hours later to claim two wickets for the English before passing out in the bar. "My reflexes ain't really with it at the moment," he said.

The last of the games today saw the Fanatics win to take the 'Bashers series' 3-2.

The last of charity matches was well attended with (it seemed) a couple of thousand people attending Coogee Oval today. The money raised will go towards promoting cricket in schools in Australia and England. The final figure wont be know until the end of the summer with a number of of charity events still to take place.

Not exactly a Barmy Army game - but a more traditional event took place on New Years Eve - The Melbourne Cricket Club Vs The Marylebone Cricket Club at the MCG on Sunday. The foreign MCC took the field first in a limited overs match and scored 177 for the loss of 8 wickets at the end of the 50th. The local MCC then decided they had better things to do, and smashed 178 off 24 overs for the loss of only 2 wickets. One poor sod finished with the figures of 1 for 45 off only 4 overs!

This is a traditional game between the two MCC's, and played on the "6th" day of the Boxing Day Test, and the "6th" day of the Lords test in an Ashes series.
