Knights fine players $50,000

THE Newcastle Knights NRL club has fined 12 players a total of $50,000 following a drunken rampage in a university dormitory in the New South Wales town of Bathurst at the weekend.

After two days of investigations and a marathon afternoon board meeting, the Knights announced a series of fines following the breach of a 3am curfew and related incidents involving a fire extinguisher and a bicycle.

Given the scrutiny elite football players are under at the moment you have to wonder how reckless some of them can be when they come out and do something like this. Sure people do crazy things when we get on the drink but after the events of last year more restrictions must be enforced on the players when they are away as a team. If one player away from a team location gets into a bit of strife you can't hold the club responsible but I believe all clubs need to implement a system to prevent team bonding sessions getting out of control like this.

I must admit when my radio annouced there was another League scandal at 7 am this morningmy heart skipped a beat and it wasn't until the Knights were named that I allowed myself to breathe again

So it would seem, every news item on the Knights night out that I have seen/read has brought up Coffs Harbour however in the above post I was also referring to the State of Origin debacle. I'm glad to see that Gallop has stuck to the policy he used last year and fined the club as well for bring the game into disrepute.

I didn't expect it to be within a few hours. SMH has released the name of the player expelled from the club and competition.

Newcastle rookie Dane Tilse was effectively expelled from rugby league last night following a drunken rampage by Knights players through a Bathurst university dorm.
