Storm member donates prize to CFA

A proud and passionate Storm member has shown the big-hearted nature that typifies the Club by donating a Suzuki Quad Bike won from a Storm competition to the Ensay Fire Brigade to assist with their fundraising efforts.

The Storm member, Joanne Rea from Sunbury, selflessly donated the Suzuki Quad Bike back to the Club, insisting it in turn be given to a deserving Emergency Services Department.

Knowing the Storm have been supporting fundraising initiatives for those affected by the Black Saturday bushfires since early 2009, Ms Rea wanted to play her part to help this wonderful cause.

“I hope the East Gippsland community purchase raffle tickets and help the Ensay Brigade raise enough money to help continue the extraordinary work they do for their community,” said Ms Rea.

“I’ve really admired the way the Storm helped those affected by the Black Saturday bushfires and by donating the Quad Bike to the Ensay Fire Brigade I hope it can help them do what they do best in some small way”.

After many weeks deliberating who should receive the quad bike, the Ensay Brigade were chosen as they are presently trying to raise funds to go towards an extension for their fire station.

Captain of the Ensay Brigade, Geoffrey Adam said, “Ensay Fire Brigade welcomes this donation from Melbourne Storm and their member Joanne Rea.”

“This provides an excellent opportunity to raise funds towards the extension of our fire station which will help us to provide a better response service to Ensay and surrounding community.

“We are a small community that has been impacted by drought over the years, so our ability to fundraise is limited. This opportunity is greatly appreciated.”

Suzuki Australia General Manager Tony Devers said the company was proud to be involved in the donation of the new quad bike to the Ensay Brigade.

"The volunteers of organisations like the Ensay CFA Brigade are true heroes and Suzuki is glad to help out in some small part," said Devers.

Melbourne Storm nominated the Victorian Bushfire Appeal as their charity for 2009 after the devastating Black Saturday fires on February 7, 2009 and were in regular contact with CFA and SES staff, members and volunteers.

In honour of the brave Emergency Staff who firstly fought the devastating fires, and then helped to rebuild the lives of those affected, the Melbourne Storm play for the Emergency Services Cup against the St George Illawarra Dragons each time the two sides meet.

In 2010 the Storm’s charity initiative, the “Points with a Purpose” program, raised $146,500 for many worthy charities.
