Lawyers representing the NRL replied with written documentation stating that if members persisted in legal action representing the team and supporters, that if we were to be unsuccessful in court, that they in turn would then sue us for costs. Obviously we're talking hundreds of thousands of dollars, and as such we really had no choice but to abandon our quest for fair treatment.
The letter posted will be able to be viewed today at the march I believe. but as Mr gordon pointed out, News Ltd are a multi million dollar company who are used to getting their way. And with them backing the NRL against supporters of their own franchise being the Storm, we really had a limited chance of success.
There were of course a few of us that were prepared to throw in substancial sums of money in order to continue, however we as everyday people couldn't not take the risk due to the sums of money we'd be up for if we indeed lost.
It really is just a plain example of a big corporation flexing it's muscle against a smaller opponent. What is different in our scenario is the fact that they are flexing their muscles against members of their own organisation.
Anyone who said the National Rugby League was a game for the fans is truely and utterly deluded.
