Player Sponsor - who's in?
Okay - I'm shamelessly stealing this idea from an AFL club website. Thought it could work for us too. So I'm putting forward the following proposal.
Melbourne Storm offers two forms of player sponsorship: a Storm Player Supporter, and a Storm Player Patron. Normally corporate-types get involved, as a way to publicise their business. The versions I've seen is a way for the supporters to get involved, pick a player, and do a little charitable work in the progress.
What I'd like to see firstly, is an indication from members here who would like to contribute $50 towards the payment of a player supporter / patron package. The details of the packages are:
Player Supporter $1500
* 2 tickets to attend an exclusive networking function, where you can socialise with your player, and other sponsors
* 1 framed photo of you with your sponsored player
* 2 tickets to Stormy Stormy Night
* 2 personalised reports from the coaching staff
* Access to 2 NRL Grand Final and 2 State of Origin tickets (same rights as your membership)
* Recognition of your sponsorship on the Storm website
Player Patron $4500
* 4 tickets to attend an exclusing networking function, where you can socialise with your player, and other sponsors
* 1 framed jersey signed by your player, with a plaque in recognition of your sponsorship
* 4 tickets to Stormy Stormy Night
* 2 personalised reports from the coaching staff
* 1 Player appearance at a pre-approved event
* Access to 4 NRL Grand Final and 4 State of Origin tickets (same rights as your membership)
* Recognition of your sponsorship on the Storm website
My theory on this (it's a bit easier on the AFL version), is that items such as a player appearance could be donated to a charity. I'm not sure if any memberships are included in this package, but the AFL version of this idea donates the memberships to Star light or Make a Wish. Tickets to the Stormy Stormy Night could be a lucky dip out of each of the members who contribute.
In order to obtain a Player Supporter, we need 30 members to chip in $50. For a Player Partner, we'd need 90 members. Of course, if you are interested, an amount larger than this is acceptable.
So there's the idea. A chance for us to support the club and in particular, a player of our choosing (I'm awaiting a list of available players). If you're keen on this idea, please post or PM me an amount you'd be willing to contribute. If we get enough interest, we can setup a bank account for money collection etc.

Are you saying that you want the Bai Stand as a whole to be a player sponsor? That would be kinda cool. How would the proposed benefits be sorted amongst all those who put in the $50, as you say potentially 30 members (for 2 GF tix)?
Just out of interest, how much is it for guernsey/short sponsorship?

No idea on the guernsey / shorts but expect it to be in the multi-thousands. My understanding of the Grand Final / SoO tickets is it's the same as ordinary membership - you have rights to purchase. It doesn't come with tickets.
Thoughts would be:
Stormy Stormy Night tickets a lucky dip. One entry per $50 (you can have multiple entries per person). Alternatively, donated to Make A Wish Foundation
Framed Photo / Framed Guernsey possibly a lucky dip.
A Player appearance could be a donors gathering -a chance for those who contribute to have a bbq with the player or similar.
There are some options which just don't quite work out. I've asked the club if there's a way to make the packages more suitable to a large group of people.
Currently we have:
Buzz: $100
Tigger's Lot: $??
Filthy Teeve: $??
Current Total: $100
The more people who contribute the more players we can sponsor.

C'mon people, the silence in here is deafening.
The season's not far away & Buzz will need to know numbers real soon, even if you're not interested, how about posting here so he'll know if people have actually read this?
No-one's gunna be ticked if you don't want in on this (at least I don't mind ) but I think it's a great idea

When I want your opinion - I'll give it to you!
Just an update. I spoke with the club, and only two players have been sponsored so far. Cooper Cronk has been taken at the $1500 level. Greg Inglis at the $4500 level. If we make it to the $4500, then the player chosen could come along to a "sponsors bbq" for a while.
I'll keep trying to come up with some options for the club about how to recognise each contributor in some way. Whether we trade the framed and plaqued group photo for a smaller photo we can frame ourselves, with each person getting one.
This is the first year the club is trying the project, and I kind of like the idea of The Bai Stand getting behind the person who'll generally be wearing #5 - it has a synergy I reckon! It's a marvellous suggestion TS!
At this stage, we're looking for people to commit to the project. Minimum is $50. Once we achieve a level, and if we agree, then we'll ask everyone to pony up. C'mon! The Carlton supporters are already onto their second player! There - challenge issued!
