I'm going to do my best to keep all player related performance conversation in this thread from here on out. Apparently there's a fair section of the forum that doesn't enjoy reading it , so if you don't..... here's the solution, don't bother entering this thread topic!!! I might just be having a one way conversation with myself and that's fine, but I'll bet many read it which will be seen through the views. I would encourage others to do the same, but you do you.

I'm sick of constant arguements also, so if you disagree with a player rating/performance maybe the respectful way would be to just do your own player rating list and put your own thoughts down while doing your best not to poke at the thoughts of another. I know quite a few do enjoy these types of discussion so I encourage respectful posters to post your own ratings and thoughts. But lets try to do the whole team and not just a player or 2. In fact, I'm not sure if I'll have the energy to do it every single week so it would be nice if someone does a full list if I don't- don't be shy to jump in first - if someone else wants to go for it don't wait on me. Might just do scores with no explanation when I can't be arsed like tonight- and other times I might throw a descriptor or two down.

Who knows, if it gets going and a few get on board maybe we can aggregate everyone's scores and do a stormfans player of week or year or whatever.

Anyway here it go's for....

Very harsh on Waitere - he has issues defensively (no different from every other back of ours), but his upside with ball in hand is legit. He looked threatening every time he touched it.

I agree with what you said for the most part stormszn and respect your thoughts as a poster. That said, defence is half the game, and its horrid. He had at least 2 decisions that directly lead to tries and a few other really poor defensive plays especially positionally. My money is betting he wont make it to 100 NRL games.

Given Warbrick ran for over 200 metres, notwithstanding his 3 errors. Surely he deserved a 5 or 6.

6 missed tackkes and an error from Chan, I would say should be a 6.

Yeh; they are pretty fair calls Scooter. On reflection, I raced through those scores last night in about two minutes after all the previous hours post game carry on without too much thought. Didn't really have the intention to do it pre-game so I wasn't particularly watching the game with it in mind; I more made this thread as a result of Stormszns comment how she/he's sick of player arguments in the match thread taking away from the joy of a win. Pretty hard to come up with a dead accurate score for every player and just enjoy the game at the same time, which I really did last night, but I'll try to have a more even eye with it in mind in future weeks if I go to do it. No doubt the scores would adjust slightly if I sat there post game and watched a few replays and conducted some more in depth analysis, but who has time of that as a regular punter. I'm sure all the scores wont be correct to the exact number every time.

Certainly not starting this as something where my words final like its some sort of official thing, I'd encourage you all to post a full list of scores where possible also - and maybe we can aggregate them or something. But happy for respectful, feedback and discussion on how players are travelling week to week and in the team in general also. I'd be interested in seeing this from other posters on here - even the ones I clash with if done respectfully.

In regards your 2 points:

Chan probably was overscored, 6-7 is probably a more realistic range, I didn't realise the amount of missed tackles he had, I don't recall seeing that many in game, I'd have to rewatch to be sure but am happy to go with your and others observation- I wasn't watching him that closely to be honest- my eyes were largely pinned on Trent last night as i knew Billy would have given him a tip about a potential starting jersey, so I'd be more passionate about disagreements regarding the players I watched particularly closely. The other thing is stats aren't the be all and end all, I'd have to look at where those 6 missed tackles of Chans were made and what the cause was, I just remember he had a real aggressive intent and ran hard and don't remember him being personally responsible for a try - but I'm happy to look at particular involvements in games if the minute things occur are provided so I can go straight to that point and look. I'd change his score- but gee the edit feature locks out quickly on this website- among numerous other technical problems that occur in its usage.

As for Warbrick, I could understand anyone going from about 4-6. Other than those 2 errors he was very good. I went on the lower end for the following reasons: 1. All errors etc. aren't alike, I think ones that directly result in bombing certain points, or clean unforced errors that put the team under huge pressure are way worse than the ball coming out in mid field in a rainy game when a player gets ironed out by a couple of opposing defenders for example. He should be finishing that try..... and it cost us 4-6 points. That error out of our end unforced on play 1 or 2, put us under huge pressure 20 metres out (cant remember if Knights scored a try from that block of territory/possession), and he just clean dropped it without anyone near him, it literally fell out of his grasp when he already had the ball secured as he was trotting along. Those sort of things can absolutley cost a game and if we went down by two, those would be the obvious moments in particular as costing the result.
2. He has a history of this and isn't learning.

Anyway, throw down your scores for the 16 who got on the field...

STORM V RAIDERS – AAMI Park 21/6

1. Sua - 8/10. One of his quieter performances but still did nothing wrong and looked threatening throughout. A couple of great kick returns and final passes.
2. Warbrick - 9/10. Great under high ball. Ran Hard, almost flawless. Great response after a howler against Knights.
3. Howarth - 6/10. Threw an intercept in a try scoring position. Couple of poor misses which is a constant with him. Ran hard which is his strength.
4. Chan - 5/10. Out of position, trying his best but getting burnt and too many errors around him.
5. Leo - 8/10. So strong on kick returns and out of own end, defends better from the wing.
6. Munster - 8/10. Perhaps his best defensive game of the season backing up from origin. A great 250th.
7. Hughes - 6/10. Rushed out of line for 1st try to raiders and a couple of other poor misses. Dynamite running game has been missing of late. Went off injured late.
8. Uto - 9/10. Continuing his great last month or so. Took on Tapine and won.
14. Toleu - 7/10. Opened the game well and looked ok at hooker despite the scoreline early. Hooker looks his best position.
10. King. - 6/10 Quiet.
11. Clarke - 8/10. A great 60mins before succumbing to cramps.
12. Lisati - 8/10. Strong on both sides of the ball as usual.
13. Loeiro - 7/10. Poor 1st half, good second half, decent back up from a great origin game.

Bench
9. Harry - 8/10. Changed the game when came on. Couple of very handy kicks.
15. McDonald - 7/10. Best version of Macca. Got through his work without fuss. Another toiler.
16. Hetherington - 7/10.Good bench impact. If can get this off him each week would be great.
18. Blore - 8/10. Continued on Clarke’s work.

MANLY V STORM – Four Pines Park – 27/6

1. Sua - 9/10. Our best yet again in a losing side. Imagine what he could do in a team flying high on confidence at the top of the comp. I have little doubt in my own mind if we committed to him at fullback two years ago, and he stayed fit, we win one of the last 2 premierships, most likely last year. He is offering way more overall than the Papenhuyzen of the last 2 seasons.
2. Warbrick - 8/10. Good finish, ran hard. Brandy Alexander in commentary was pretty much right- “One of the best wingers in the competition”. Has had some poor weeks, especially early on this year, but overall he's putting together a great career. Spent a long time sidelined and looks to be getting back to some of the form that had him in the convo for best winger in the game in 2024.
3. Chan - 4/10. Out of position, ran soft, tackled soft, errors. Might have the fact we are trying to offload him on his mind - showed in his intensity. Thought he was hooked but Craig said he had back spasms in the presser so maybe explains the display.
5. Leo - 5/10. Looked lost at centre again before getting knocked out through poor technique which is part of why he won’t make in that position.
19. STB - 6/10. Raw and looks it. Not quite ready.
6. Munster - 7/10. Standard.
7. Wishart - 7/10. Shifted around everywhere out of position at times. Tried hard, offered little.
8. Uto - 7/10. Stock standard. Not enough from a premier prop and supposedly our forward leader. Hard being our only real go forward guy that has punch when we are on the back foot, but when he’s singled out like that - he folds a bit. Maybe hooked after that error off a Munster pass?
9. Harry - 7/10. Few poor moments by his usual high standards.
10. King - 7/10 Typical King performance. A true ‘toiler’ - this really shows up negatively when we are struggling.
11. Clarke - 7/10. Raw, getting his job done, but the impact has gone with playing bigger minutes. Has some little deficiencies in him he needs to work on.
12. Lisati - 8/10. Was one of our better players until went down with injury. Yet another blow in this accursed season. Possible Syndesmosis.
13. Loeiro - 7/10. Thought he was great and one of our best other than a poor kick on attack which turned over possession which was a brain snap... although the halves should be taking control there. Likely the kick was called for inside him, and he got stuck with it and lost the tackle count or saw an opportunity for brick but didnt execute. A couple of double carry sets when everyone else was hiding and shortened a few blokes up.

bench
14. Toleu - 5/10. Several very poor moments on both sides of the ball. Looks second rate in the halves for mine.
17. McDonald 5/10 –Had a very poor first 10 or so, but did improve with more time. Looks destined to be a fringe bench player at best, wouldn’t make 17 at many clubs. Times ticking to do something at the club… anything. Disappointing after one of his better displays last week.
18. Blore - 8/10. I didn’t see him do anything wrong and not sure why his minutes are being limited. At this stage he is more suited to those big minutes than Clarke for mine. Had that one great run and did nothing negative I can recall. Maybe could be used more in the middle.
21. Huen - 7/10. For his first decent minutes in first grade at centre I thought he looked ok. Reminds me a bit of Valence Te Whare but slimmer. If he works on his fitness, body shape and speed perhaps he can crack it there. He may get a few more runs there given the lack of options.
15. Hetherington - 5/10. Limited minutes. Penalty on kicker was soft but we know you just can’t take that risk- typical of his discipline. Didn’t do much else.

Belly in the presser- “We’d love to get a couple more players in to strengthen us.” Hoping like all of us to get both Keeley and Xerri prior to June 30. The way he spoke about Xerri it sounds done.

Rough to say that’s stock standard for Stef after how good he’s been this year and especially recently tbh. I think he’s been brilliant with how little help he gets from the rest of the pack. Very noticeable when he’s not on the field.

Hey stormszn. I meant tonight in particular was a stock standard performance from him as in nothing special , nothing terrible. I didn't mean it as in that's representative of his entire season. He's been great the last 6 weeks or so..mostly 8-9/10 but i think his first couple of months to start the year were below expectations overall.
If he was on the cusp for blues game 3 he may of played himself out of a jersey tonight imo. Most likely was not in calculations anyway.

Yeah I misread that. I agree with that, pretty average performance from him tonight. Not sure why he only for 45 minutes when someone like MacDonald gets 41.

Definitley needs more minutes. I'd have him around 60min+. He's still our best go forward man and we've got bugger all of that. I kind of feel like we might be seeing some blokes like macca get some more minutes though to assist making future decisions. He's a prime example of someone we need to work out where the hell we are going with him. He's been around long enough now to have a larger role ...and if not up to it by now, cut him.

Honestly thought Hetherington did what he was supposed to which was be an enforcer. That grub second rower for Manly was throwing elbows all game, somebody needed to make him back off a bit. As soon as Hetherington got out there, he stopped wanting to do it, no coincidence, Hetherington is a loose cannon and I don't think it was really worth it to get him but if we're going to, he may as well get injected in this situation and provide some feat factor.

Seem fair - a few differences for me Harsh on Tolaeu who did ok and Grant was our only attacking spark.

Very generous on Stefano who I thought was “MIA” in his 1st stint last night. Odd as hes been very good thus year

Blore seems to do good when coming on. Any reason we are not playing him SR to allow Clarke to play middle?

STORM V TITANS - AAMI PARK – 12/7/26

1. Sua - 8/10. Moments of individual brilliance throughout again. Was limping with about 20 to go but was great to see him tough it out and came up with some great plays late with game on the line. A couple of great defensive covering efforts also. Does need to work on positioning himself a bit better on backline shifts and on his passing game particularly in linking with Hughes as the play broke down a few times where he needed to position himself better.
2. Warbrick - 7/10. A quieter game after recent weeks, kept trying to get himself involved for high balls and with carries, but just couldn’t break through for any really big moments.
3. Howarth - 7/10. Mixed bag. Ran hard as he does, great work to keep fighting to ground the ball for 2nd try. Left for HIA late in first half and was going well and returned early in the second. Was going along nicely …. then in minute 63 with us leading 18-12 comes up with a horrid defensive play that brings Titans back level. Highlighted again that he is little to no hope of stopping fast fit opposing numbers with footwork 1on 1 more often than not. Tried hard after the defensive lapse and continued on like he had previous. If he could just get those 1 on 1 reads on his goal line sorted he’d be ok, but I’ve lost faith he can do it consistently and not cost us in big moments.
4. Meaney - 6/10. Didn’t do much of note for the majority of the game but did start going to the game a bit more when it was on the line. OK for first game back after a while.
21. STB - 5/10. Some poor errors and defensive plays. Minimal impact with the ball in yardage.
14. Wishart - 7/10. Scything run to get us down field for 1st try. Poor read defensively to allow first titans try to Fotuaika. Tried hard as usual and made some great efforts to support and run late in the game with the result on the line.
7. Hughes - 6/10. Passing all over the shop. Run threat has gone missing a bit. Had a couple of nice try assists and glimpses of his class but need more from our marquee man, has been off his best for some time now.
8. Uto - 7/10. Below par 1st stint again with little impact but came good in his 2nd stint with game on the line with a few trademark runs. Crucial kick chase tackle on Kini late.
19. Toleau - 6/10. Started at hooker for the opening 20, nil threat offered in attack, pretty feeble defence. The difference is clearly night and day when Harry takes his place.
10. King - 7/10. Worked hard, minimal errors. Copy paste.
11. Clarke - 8/10. Great game ran hard drawing multiple defenders every time, tidy in defence only missed a 9 due a couple of very simple errors. Perhaps his best display thus far. Thought he, Macca and Trent were our best.
15. Chan - 5/10. The everywhere man again, had to go to the centres when Howarth picked up a hia, was contributing little prior to his, erratic.
13. Loiero - 9/10. Took on Tino and Mo early and won. One of the better shots of the season on Fotuaika just prior to our 1st try to lift the side. Took it personally to contain Tino. Stats line great as usual- 80 mins, 38 tackles, 130 metres, 3 tackle breaks, 0 misses, errors or penalties. Spot on mix of aggression and discipline. Great origin back up. Our best on the night.

Bench

9. Harry - 8/10. Came off bench and had an immediate impact with a great kick forcing a turnover. Came up with a few crucial kicks and seems to be improving his kicking game in general. Solid back up off origin.
12. McDonald 9/10 – Terrific impact from bench. Leg speed, bent the line, found his front and fast play the balls. Ran a good line off Hughes for a try. Thought it was one of his best career games. No excuse not to back it up next week though given it’s a limited minutes impact role he does. Bench seems destined to be where he is best.
17. Pahulu – 5/10. Bit of a fizzle after the long wait for his club debut. Looked gassed after about 2 minutes, had a couple of strong runs, came off. Maybe burnt all his energy waiting for this moment and was in disbelief when it came.
18. Keeley - 7/10. Came on at 30th minute to right edge. Started strong, shored up our defence a bit, faded a bit as game wore on. One strong crucial run in the 2nd half. Carrying a fair bit of strapping, I doubt he’s 100% fit, looked a bit encumbered at times. Very Solid debut.
