Even 8th/9th feels very generous.

Is he better than any of these?
Walsh
Tedesco
Ponga
Hammer
Drinkwater
Trbojevic
Mitchell
Brimson
Edwards
Bula
Gutherson
CNK

Probably better than;
Kris
Kennedy
Averillo
Sloan

That puts him around 13th IMO.
I think he's performed well for us and we've more than got our money's worth. Good fullback, solid team player and our best fit goal kicker.

This year he's been consistently better than Tedesco.
More solid than Brimson.
On the field about 4 times as much as Trbojevic. And twice as much as Mitchell.
Not subject to the brain explosions of CNK and Bula.
Been caught 'drunk' in hotel toilets less than Ponga (and less of a worry with head knocks).
Significantly less ugly than a shaven headed Gutherson.

We've got problems in the backline no doubt, but they don't start with Nick.

All things considered I reckon you're right on the money, and very hilariously put too!

Thanks mate.
I did muck up a bit though. I should have written:

"This year he's been consistently better than Tedesco THE AUSTRALIAN CAPTAIN!"

I realise my opinion is probably tainted by ~18 years of being spoiled with elite fullbacks… I also agree that Meaney has very likely delivered value for money.

But I still have issues with his play at fullback and don’t think we can ever be a genuine Premiership threat with Meaney at #1.

Paps coming back is great. But he is not the answer to the problems

Agreed. He's not Billy Stater. But Meany is certainly a good, solid first grade fullback.

Something from left field if Paps gets through ok today, is that due to the current dearth of wingers next week Paps plays in the one position and Meaney on the wing.

Meaney was a winger for the Bulldogs and would be there to cover if something goes pears shaped with Paps.

Another possibility if Smith is back is Young to the wing

Or Olam gets a recall, or we blood Fa’alogo possibly?

I would like to see Bradley on the bench. He can cover injuries to centre or wing and can also play in 2nd row.

Looking at the QRL website, I see that Paps played the full 80 today, made 5 conversions and a penalty goal AND scored a try in the last minute ! I expect that will give him huge confidence .

He was pretty good for 65 minutes then for 10 minutes seemed to slow down and get a bit lost …got a lucky try with 30 seconds to go

Apparently copped a knock at training and in some doubt for the falcons this week.

If he misses this week I think that’s a line through him this season, to risky to carry him into finals with barely any game time.

I hope his all good and gets a 80 minute performance in!
