From what I've seen so far, I'd have Meaney in the 17 and make Coates work to earn his place.Scooter wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 7:14 pm Storm squad

Too many lazy moments in defence for mine.
We must all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately
While I think Coates is more naturally talented than Dean, I have yet to see the work ethic which Bellyache prizes - especially in defence. I thought the same of him last year at the Donkeys.
I don't mind which way it goes; play Xavier but tell him he's on notice, or play Dean and make Coates prove himself in Q-Cup. But I think he needs to know that it's not a guaranteed start.

I think I'll slightly disagree with this as I don't think he's a bad player, just not a good one. Whether he's got enough potential to improve, I don't know.We don’t have good enough replacements to drop our most talented outside back. Bizarre take honestly especially when we are playing a guy who has no business playing first grade on the other side.
IMHO, he's certainly not helped by R Smith, who in my mind has developed into the new Will Chambers. Defensively, they both have issues. Coates, in space , is a clear winner, but the times that's happened lately are far and few between. At least, both seem a better option that Jennings as in most times, hang onto the ball.

Make Coates own a shirt? Are you serious?
He’s an Origin winger. Clear ability and effort. Runs it in far harder for us than I’ve seen him do at the broncos
Yeah he’s raw but he’s basically a 2017 Fox. He has all the athletic abilities. Taller but maybe not quite as quick.
On the other wing Meaney is a shoe in for me. He’s class. Well ahead of Ieremia and Jennings.
Ieremia is a decent back up but not quite NRL grade for week in week out yet…

Sounds like the right selection.
