Broncos v Storm: Gamble, Lodge take bans; Hope for Hughes, Bromwich

Team news
Broncos: Coach Kevin Walters has been forced to find yet another halves combination after No.7 Tyson Gamble (crusher) took an early plea and will miss one week. Prop Matt Lodge also misses the Storm clash after copping an early plea but David Mead is free to play after accepting a fine for his role in a 68th minute melee.

Centre Kotoni Staggs (knee) is a chance of playing his first game of the season but playmaker Brodie Croft (knee) is still some weeks away after recent surgery.

Captain Alex Glenn is scheduled to return from his calf injury in round 13.

Storm: Jahrome Hughes (calf) has a shot at returning after his late withdrawal from the Raiders clash as does back-rower Kenny Bromwich (hamstring), who also pulled out on match day.

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy expects fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen to be sidelined for 3-4 more weeks which means in-form understudy Nicho Hynes will continue in the No.1 jersey.

Hooker Harry Grant (hamstring) is also looking at a few more weeks out but again Bellamy has a more-than-able replacement in Brandon Smith, who was outstanding against Canberra on the weekend.

Key match-up
Nelson Asofa-Solomona v Payne Haas: No hype is needed for this heavyweight clash, which sees Asofa-Solomona butting heads with Haas. The Storm prop has scored three tries in his past two games. Haas may be try-less so far but he makes an average 15 hit-ups and runs over 138 metres a game. The presence of these two won't be hard to miss - they will be the two tallest on the field (along with Storm's Christian Welch).

Stat attack
Storm have a stranglehold on meetings with the Broncos having won the past nine in a row. You have to go back to 2016 to find the last Broncos victory (26-16) but that was in Melbourne. The last time the Broncos beat the Storm at Suncorp Stadium was in March 2009 (16-14).

The Broncos got one win over us in 2016 (10 points), one win over us in 2015 (2 points). Otherwise you are going back to May 2010 for the Broncos next most recent win against the Storm.

If both teams continue to play to their potential, Round 20 is shaping as one of, if not our biggest regular season game in years.

The Panthers are very possibly still undefeated at that point. We could be looking at our last defeat coming at the hands of the Panthers in Round 3.

I wonder if the Melbourne Storm will be allowed back into Victoria now with Covid outbreaks

None of those were in Brisbane either. The last time the Storm lost to the Broncos at Suncorp was 2009. Before that it was 2005 I believe.

We are still without top line players and they come off a crushing and impressive win. Still Matt Lodge who ran for 202 metres last week, out hurts them.

You are correct. Last loss at Suncorp against the Broncos was March 20th 2009 (by 2 points). The next most recent loss in Brisbane was July 17th 2005. So no losses in Brisbane in 12 years, and two losses in Brisbane in 17 years. That is a crazy level of dominance...

I was at the game in 2010 at AAMI Park... Opening NRL game in the new stadium. Bitterly disappointing!

Hopefully 9+ Panthers players are selected in Origin and it has an impact on their season.

We have had to manage that in the past and it definitely has had an effect.

Geez we've scored some points since that Cameron Smith fellow has retired, he'd really been holding us back!

How many will we put past the Bronco's this week?

If you listen to some of the commentators, the Broncos are in form! After one win against a Roosters team that attempted a high tackle virtually every set.

They must have forgot that the week before, the Sea Eagles put 50 on them... and the three weeks before last week, they conceded on average, 41.3 points.

IN FORM!

Not that impressive really. Roosters more undermanned than we are, and Radley being a cockwomble gave them plenty of leg ups - you'd almost say he was the Broncs most valuable.
Gamble and Lodge out and Milford in. Works well in our favour.
We must all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately
