I think if it's for the prelim then the dome should certainly be considered a good option - as has been said before in this thread, a 'special' game like that would most likely draw a larger crowd than OP could hold - but it's all moot at the moment, we can't get ahead of ourselves just yet.......

With so much uncertainty about who will make the top eight, media are reminded there is a new Telstra Premiership Finals Series this season featuring Home City and Home Region matches.
The new format gives fans that have supported their team throughout the season a greater chance of being part of the Finals action.
“It is a significant change to the way we structure our Finals matches,” NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, said.
“Importantly, it will reward fans, clubs and players who have earned the right to have Finals played in their region.”

HOW IT ALL WORKS
The NRL uses the McIntyre Finals System with the top eight teams after Round 25 of the Telstra Premiership qualifying to compete. This system ranks the teams for Week One of the Finals according to their positions on the table and offers up numerous possibilities for matches through the Telstra Premiership Finals Series.

WEEK ONE
VENUES AND TIMES
The four highest ranked teams will be eligible to host qualifying finals in Week One of the Finals. The four Qualifying Finals will feature the following match-ups:
Friday: 4v 5, 8pm; Saturday: 3 v 6 6.30pm, 2 v 7 8.30pm. Sunday: 1v 8 4pm.
These times are subject to confirmation when the teams and venues are ratified.

TICKET PRICES
Ticket prices for the Telstra Premiership Finals Series will depend on the venue for the match. Prices will be confirmed by the Sunday night before they go on sale.

HOW TO BUY TICKETS
Tickets are available through Ticketek on 132 849, at Ticketek outlets or online at www.ticketek.com.au. New Zealand customers can also call 09 307 5000 or 0800 842 538 (toll free in NZ).
Tickets for any Finals match scheduled at Telstra Dome in Melbourne must be purchased through Ticketmaster on 136 100, at Ticketmaster outlets or online at www.ticketmaster.com.au.
Tickets for any Finals match scheduled at Dairy Farmers Stadium in Townsville must be purchased through Tickets Online on 1300 737 909, at Tickets Online outlets or online at www.ticketsonline.net.au. Please note that any season ticket holder - home or away - using their pass to purchase tickets may only buy them over the phone or at the main office at Dairy Farmers Stadium.

For all Finals matches, customers are limited to one transaction and can purchase a maximum of eight tickets in order to give everyone a chance of buying tickets and to reduce the chance of scalping. Limits on the number of tickets that can be purchased for each season pass vary depending on the club and match venue.
Please note: Season ticket holders of the competing clubs cannot purchase tickets online during the priority booking windows for Week One of the Finals. Season ticket holders of the competing clubs can buy tickets online during the priority windows for Weeks Two and Three.

SEASON TICKET HOLDER OFFERS
The home club will determine if their season ticket holders can access their normal seat. The clubs most likely to host a match in Week One of the Finals have made the following arrangements for ticket sales; they vary because of venue size and membership numbers:

Melbourne: The club is currently liaising with its season ticket holders about the option of purchasing their own seat. Tickets for home and away team season ticket holders will be on sale from 9am on Monday, September 3, with customers limited to four tickets per pass, and to the general public from 9am on Tuesday, September 4.
Manly: The club is currently liaising with its season tickets about the option of purchasing their seat. Tickets to home and away team season ticket holders will be on sale from 9am on Monday, September 3, and to the general public from 9am on Tuesday, September 4. Home and away season ticket holders buying in the priority window on the Monday will be limited to one ticket per pass. There is limited access to reserved seating.
Parramatta: Tickets to home and away team season ticket holders will be on sale from 9am on Monday, September 3, and to the general public from 9am on Tuesday, September 4. Season ticket holders of the competing clubs may purchase up to two tickets with their season pass.
Bulldogs, Wests Tigers and South Sydney: Season ticket holders of both the home and away teams can purchase up to four tickets with their pass for games at Telstra Stadium with tickets on sale from 9am on Monday, September 3. Tickets for the general public will be on sale from 9am on Tuesday, September 4.
New Zealand Warriors: Season ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase their seat. Tickets will go on sale to home and away season ticket holders from 9am Sydney time (11am in New Zealand) on Monday, September 3, and to the general public from 9am Sydney time (11am New Zealand time) on Tuesday, September 4. Season ticket holders from the home and away clubs can only purchase one ticket per pass in the priority window on the Monday.
North Queensland Cowboys: The club is currently liaising with its season ticket holders about buying their seat. Tickets to home and away season holders will go on sale from 9am on Monday, September 3, and to the general public from 9am on Tuesday, September 4. Season ticket holders may only purchase one ticket per season pass in the priority window on the Monday.
Please note: No matter how many season passes are presented, an individual customer cannot purchase more than eight tickets. Home and away season ticket holders of the competing clubs will have access to tickets in different parts of the venue. Supporter bays will be set up where possible.

THE RESULTS
The two highest ranked winners from Week One automatically progress to Week Three of the Finals and do not play in Week Two. The two lowest ranked losers are eliminated. The remaining four teams compete in Week Two of the Finals.

HISTORY
In the eight years under the McIntyre system, the top-ranked team has never lost in Week One of the Finals, but the team finishing second has lost four times, the team finishing third has lost five times and the team finishing fourth has lost twice. The teams ranked 1 and 2 in Week One cannot be eliminated in Week One, while the teams ranked 7 and 8 must win to avoid elimination. Teams Three and Four have never been eliminated in Week One. Team 5 has been eliminated once, Team 6 three times, Team 7 four times and Team 8 every time.

WEEK TWO
Teams will be re-ranked for Week Two according to their results from Week One. The two highest ranked winners from Week One automatically progress to Week Three whilst the two remaining winners from Week One host games in Week Two against the two highest ranked losers from Week One.

VENUES
Week Two of the Finals will feature Home City Finals at 7.45pm on Saturday, September 15, and 4pm on Sunday, September 16.
The following Home City venues may qualify to host a Final in Week Two: Sydney – Sydney Football Stadium, Telstra Stadium; Brisbane/Gold Coast - Suncorp Stadium; Townsville - Dairy Farmers Stadium; Canberra - Canberra Stadium; Melbourne – Olympic Park, Telstra Dome; Auckland - Mt Smart Stadium. A decision on when each match will be played will be made following the completion of Week One Finals matches. The two winners from the Semi-Final matches will progress to the Preliminary Finals with the two losers eliminated.

TICKETS
Tickets will be available to home and away season ticket holders of the competing clubs from 9am on Monday, September 10, and to the general public from 9am on Tuesday, September 11. Home and away season ticket holders of the competing clubs will have access to tickets in different parts of the venue. Supporter bays will be set up where possible.

WEEK THREE
The two highest ranked winners from Week One will host Preliminary Finals against the two Semi-Final winners.

VENUES
Week Three of the Finals will feature Home Region Finals at 7.45pm on Saturday, September 22, and 4pm on Sunday, September 23.
The following venues may qualify to host a Final in Week Three: Sydney Football Stadium, Telstra Stadium, Suncorp Stadium, Dairy Farmers Stadium, Telstra Dome and Mt Smart Stadium. A decision on where and when the matches will be played will be made following the completion of Week Two of the Finals.

TICKET SALES
Tickets will be available to home and away season ticket holders of the competing clubs from 9am on Monday, September 17, and to the general public from 9am on Tuesday, September 18.
Home and away season ticket holders of the competing clubs will have access to tickets in different parts of the venue. Supporter bays will be set up where possible.

Should Melbourne host a Final in Week Three, tickets will go so sale to Storm season ticket holders a week earlier, on September 10, from 12pm and to the general public on Tuesday, September 11, also from 12pm. This is due to the unique Melbourne market and the size of the Telstra Dome venue. The time is later so as not to clash with the on-sale of AFL Finals tickets.A generous allocation of tickets will be reserved for season ticket holders of their opponents, to go on sale on Monday, September 17. All remaining tickets will go on sale again on Tuesday, September 18, from 9am.

THE GRAND FINAL
The two winners from Week Three will compete in the 2007 NRL Grand Final at Telstra Stadium from 7pm on Sunday, September 30. Tickets are currently on sale and are available through Ticketek on 132 849, at Ticketek offices or www.ticketek.com.au There will be an additional allocation of at least 14,000 tickets held across all categories for release to season ticket holders of the Grand Final teams on Monday, September 24.
Any remaining tickets will then be released for public sale the next day.

CAN SEASON TICKET HOLDERS BUY THEIR OWN SEAT IN WEEK ONE?
Yes at the Storm, Sea Eagles, Warriors and Cowboys, but no at the Eels, Bulldogs, Rabbitohs and Tigers.

WHY NOT AT THOSE CLUBS?
Because there are more tickets available, the Bulldogs, Tigers, Rabbitohs and Eels can give home and away season ticket holders of the competing clubs the chance to buy more than one ticket during the priority booking period. You cannot buy your own seat, but you have the chance to take a friend/friends.

ARE THERE PRIORITY WINDOWS FOR SEASON TICKET HOLDERS?
Yes, but only for season ticket holders of “first grade” clubs competing in the match. Season ticket holders of the competing clubs can purchase tickets before the general public. Season ticket holders of clubs not competing in the match, or of junior and lower grade teams playing that day, cannot buy tickets in the priority windows.

WHY?
There are limits on tickets available in those windows and they are reserved for season ticket holders of the competing NRL clubs.

CAN I USE MY SEASON PASS TO BUY TICKETS FOR FRIENDS IN THE PRIORITY WINDOW?
No for Manly, North Queensland and New Zealand season ticket holders in Week One because of the demands on seating due to venue size and membership numbers - you would not have the option of buying your own seat if all season ticket holders are buying extra tickets. In matches hosted by the Storm, Bulldogs, Rabbitohs, Eels and Tigers, home and away season ticket holders from competing clubs can purchase up to four tickets. Please note that no matter how many passes are presented, an individual customer cannot purchase any more than eight tickets.

HOW MANY TICKETS CAN SEASON TICKET HOLDERS BUY?
Ticket limits during priority buying windows vary depending on the size of the match venue and membership numbers. Any season ticket holder wishing to buy more tickets than the maximum allowed during the priority booking windows must wait until tickets go on sale to the general public.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF TICKETS FANS CAN BUY?
Eight. This is to ensure that all fans have an opportunity to purchase tickets and to restrict opportunities for scalping.

WHY IS THERE A SHORT LEAD-IN TIME TO PURCHASE TICKETS?
The NRL has supported fans’ requests for more flexibility in ticket sales and allocation of Finals venues, which has led to the introduction of Home City and Home Region Finals. It also gives fans from competing clubs equal access to buying tickets. Tickets cannot go on sale until a venue has been allocated and venues for Weeks Two and Three will not be confirmed until the Sunday night before the matches.

IF MY TEAM GOES STRAIGHT TO WEEK 3, WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT TO BUY TICKETS?
Ticket allocations have to be fair for both sets of fans. In the past, some fans have had not had the opportunity to buy tickets because the other team’s fans snapped them up in advance.

WHY IS IT DIFFERENT FOR MELBOURNE IF THEY HOST A WEEK 3 FINAL?
The unique Melbourne market and size of the Telstra Dome offer the chance to sell tickets early to home fans. A generous allocation of tickets across all categories will be reserved for season ticket holders of the away club.

I'm gonna do my best to make sure everyone I know comes. Only thing is, you can't get as close to the action as OP. Oh well, if it's for bigger crowds, I'm happy.
Its great we get to host our own preliminary final. It sucks that we were on top, but were still forced to play our preliminary final at TS last year. Fair treatment I ask you! Yet, Sydney still think they have the right to host the AFL grand final one day, despite not changing their rules about home finals.

Will this be played on the Saturday (22nd) or Sunday (23rd)? If it's on the Sunday, will this be played at 4pm?

I'm hoping we play on the Saturday because I have a wedding to go to on the Sunday. 

Also, am I right in presuming that, if we draw a Sydney based team (Manly, Bulldogs, Eels, Rabbitohs) for the Prelim Final, the Prelim Final will be in Sydney and not in Melbourne?

I'm not sure about that one, but..

Not AFAIK.  The week 2, 3 and 4 finals are night games, for the benefit of TV audiences.

No, whether the team we'd face is a Sydney based team or not is completely irrelevant.  It's a home region final for the higher ranked team in weeks 2 and 3 from this year onwards.  It's entirely possible that there will be no sydney based finals game in Week 3.

That doesn't really seem fair as we've earned the right to hold a home final. Been a long time since we played at Telstra. Also why does it say on our site that we never beat the crowd we had at our first game? Surley the game at the MCG against the Dragons beat that?
