That's a great article on Smithy. The question might need to be asked now - should he be captain next year?
With Kearney leaving, Howe retiring, Kearns in twilight, who is the standout person to wear the might (C)? Should we give it to Orford on the off-chance that it will be enough to sway him to stay past 2005? Or should we be really looking to our future and picking someone who could be ripe to be a 10-yr captain?

Since my topic/post regarding Storm captain a little while ago (http://www.atomikcorp.com/storm/viewtopic.php?t=582, opinions of Geyer's capabilities seem to have declined (on this board at least).
It will be very interesting to see who gets the nod to say the least...

With no extra team until at least 2007, how much do you wanna bet orford will do the same niggling over his contract around june next year and ask for the same terms as the current one? I don't think we should give a halfback the © regardless, he's got too much to think about on the field and arguing with the ref would only add frustration to his game. Backliners are often too far away from the action so I suppose Cam may be captain by default. Having said that, I won't be surprised if Geyer gets picked for captaincy. He plays for 80 minutes got the experience and knows the entire team, heck he's played more games for the club than anyone else!

Kidwell for captain!!!
And another note... in the article on foxsports about Howe's last game in Melbourne, it says the NRL will back the club UNTIL 2011. I thought they said last week until AT LEAST 2011??

Kearns doesn't need the captaincy for a good sendoff year next year. I would say that Cam would have the cooler head of the two (him and Ox) to deal with the extra duties of the captaincy and still keep up their high performance level without affecting it at all.
Glory, Glory to South Sydney!
