Crowd
Ahh crap.. damn byes... we only get 12 home games a yearSurandy wrote:http://stats.rleague.com/rl/crowds/melbourne.htmlpods wrote:BTW - was anyone aware we beat last years crowd average by nearly 2%
Home crowds:
2005: 106,760
2004: 106,640
106,760/ 106,640=1.001125 or 0.1125% increase on 2004 home crowd figures.

Better then a decrease!

Any increase on last year's crowd figures is good news & hopefully we've bottomed out & will start increasing crowd figures in the coming years particularly when the new stadium is opened. In the middle part of season we had some home games where the weather was woeful which didn't help our figures.
We should have a good run @ home next year due to the first 5, is it, being played away because of the Commonwealth Games.pods wrote:Ahh crap.. damn byes... we only get 12 home games a yearSurandy wrote:http://stats.rleague.com/rl/crowds/melbourne.htmlpods wrote:BTW - was anyone aware we beat last years crowd average by nearly 2%

I hope we've bottomed out as well. Waldron reckons the Storm are planning a marketing blitz next year. They got permission to hold over this year's marketing money they get from the NRL til next year.mb09 wrote:Any increase on last year's crowd figures is good news & hopefully we've bottomed out & will start increasing crowd figures in the coming years particularly when the new stadium is opened. In the middle part of season we had some home games where the weather was woeful which didn't help our figures.
Also having 8 to 12 ARL Development Officers next year will help out the promotion of the sport to kids, one of the DO's will even be in dedicated to country Victoria. Not bad considering in 2004 we had ONE ARL DO for the entire state of Victoria.
Add to that the promotion of the game around State Of Origin 3 and towards the end of the season with the test match and we hopefully can get back above 10k crowd averages in 2006.

Well expect the crowd to definitely go up by three next year. After a two year hiatus, I'm headed back home for the start of the new season and I'll be bringing two of my cousins with me at the Swan Street end of the Graveyard. I personally can't wait!! ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

If the crowds increase next year (and I really hope they do!), it would be a good hard boot up the date for Fitzgerald, Hadley etc.

What some people don't realise is that for quite a few years the crowd figures were 'fudged' to bump them up (and probably saved Storm some extreme embarrassment).
The real figures have been shown only in the past couple of years (maybe) and what you always thought was a big crowd actually wasn't.
The official capacity of OP is only around the 18,000 mark, the first game was grossly over crowded and only had that amount of people in the ground because of the stuff up with memberships & such (so they just let everyone in till they couldn't get in any more
).
The people who don't get scanned at the gate eg. banner crew & some corporates, do get accounted for in the figures as they always 'add' in extra to cover such things.
It really all comes down to active marketing by the club and the efforts of the great Storm supporters to bring people to the games and of course a successful team - then the crowds hopefully will grow.

Probly only because The away Team have been pulling massive crowds!!pods wrote:BTW - was anyone aware we beat last years crowd average by nearly 2%
