The Age wrote:Game will miss great guy and friend to many

A QUICK look at rugby league websites yesterday revealed how Robbie Kearns will be remembered by rugby league fans, with many comments about a "great guy" who was always receptive to a chat and sadness at his decision to retire.

Kearns is a genuinely nice guy and while the Storm will miss his presence on the field, it has acted wisely in keeping him at the club in a number of off-field roles next year.

Matt Geyer, who with Kearns and five-eighth Scott Hill are the remaining foundation players, said the club would need to find more than a tireless forward who could consistently be counted on to perform in every game.

Geyer, who recently watched some footage of Kearns as a wide-running second rower in the early days of Storm history, said the now 33-year-old prop provided that intangible glue that helps to hold a team together.

"He's got a friend at every port," Geyer said. "He'll be able to go anywhere and he will have a friend's doorstep to roll up on and not many players can say that. He's just comfortable in anyone's company. He has not got any pretentiousness about him. He likes meeting people and you'll find out that in next few weeks a lot of people will have a lot of nice words to say about him, not just from the Melbourne Storm but from the footy community in general."

Kearns has kept his grace even through the hard times, including missing origin games and the 1999 grand final win, through injury and his sacking as captain in 2002. He has been a worthy ambassador for the game in an AFL-mad state and it is a shame that Channel Nine could not find a spare crew to send to his announcement yesterday.

Hopefully, the fans will provide Kearns with a more worthy send-off at what will most likely be the Storm's last home-game for the season this Saturday against West Tigers.
This guy is fantastic!!! Oh, and Robbie is too!

Great swipe at Channel Nein, love it.

a brilliant shot at them, Robbie will be given the right send off by both the fans and the club.

Yep it will be an emotional day. I'm dissappointed I won't be able to attend. Was there for Glenn & Marcus' farewell, so I'm gutted I won't be able to attend. I'll be cheering from here. Good luck & Thank you Kearnsy!

I missed Marcus' farewell unfortunately, but I won't be missing this one for anything. Remember to farewell Robbo too though. I know Kearnsy overshadows him, but he'll still be missed

just read over on LU, and it reminded me that we have two other farewells this week. Ox and Belly are playing their last home games too. Hope they aren't forgotten completely

look guys, the boys are leaving, the decision is made, and we have moved on (I hope) At the end of the day, Ox has given us 5 years of good service, and Belly has been a very good player for the club too. They deserve a send off also

ok Kingy... I just finished replying to ChemicalStorm over there saying that Ox doesn't deserve one basically, then with Thunderstrucks emoticons, and your comment, I was starting to think people felt that they didn't deserve one. Cheers mate

oh ok. i cant speak for everyone but yeah absolutely they deserve a good send off. But with the latest news about kearns i can understand people forgetting about ox and bell for a few days losing kearns is huge. i hope all the guys put in an extra 20% on the field to make this a very special day.,
