So I guess the injury against the Cows was more severer than what the club told us?Melbourne fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen is clearly one of the toughest blokes in rugby league after starring for the Storm through the latter stages of the season with serious injuries that would have flattened most players.
Papenhuyzen’s heel problem was well documented but Sport Con can now reveal the lengths he went to as he chased a premiership. Papenhuyzen underwent a process called radiofrequency ablation (RFA) to deal with the issue, which involved sending radio waves into the affected area of his heel to destroy the nerve and stop it from sending pain signals to the brain.
The process is used to provide lasting relief for people with chronic pain. It is understood that Papenhuyzen was also dealing with a fracture in his leg that added to his discomfort. Papenhuyzen conceded he needed painkilling injections - often two or three - to play over the closing stages of the year.
It is understood he often needed painkilling injections to train as well. Sadly, his premiership quest came up short.
Paps is one tough SOB but not sure why we let him play through pain when we had a quality backup.
Nuh there were articles about it for ages after …they said he was playing on a fractured leg for weeks apparently he was getting scans every week to see if it was getting better or worse and it was getting no worse so he kept playing …blazza18 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 12:55 pmSo I guess the injury against the Cows was more severer than what the club told us?Melbourne fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen is clearly one of the toughest blokes in rugby league after starring for the Storm through the latter stages of the season with serious injuries that would have flattened most players.

STORM TO LAUNCH APPEAL FOR NAS SUSPENSION
The Storm have made an application for the upcoming international series to count towards the ban which saw Nelson Asofa-Solomona miss their grand final loss to the Panthers.
Asofa-Solomona was hit with a four game ban following a high tackle on Roosters prop Lindsay Collins. He failed to have the charge downgraded at the NRL judiciary. Now he is hoping that he will be able to count New Zealand’s Tests towards his ban. The Kiwis will play two Tests and a potential final which means the towering Storm prop could be right to play in round one next year.
The Tigers successfully applied to have Api Koroisau’s games count towards two of Fiji’s pool matches while Cameron Murray also used the PM’s XIII match for his ban.

Absolute joke if it doesn't. Should get all stars too. Remember when James Graham got to count practice games and Victor Radley counted origin despite never having played? We should take it to court if he can't since there's a clear precedent.

Melbourne’s hopes of making a fast start to next season have received a boost after the NRL ruled that prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona could serve three matches of a five-match ban in the Pacific Championships.
Asofa-Solomona missed last year’s grand final over a high shot on Sydney Roosters prop Lindsay Collins after being handed a suspension, the bulk of which was set to carry over into the start of 2025.
However, the Storm successfully applied for Asofa-Solomona to serve three games of his suspension during the Pacific Championships given he would have been part of the New Zealand side had he been available.
It means the big bopper will be left with only one game of his ban remaining at the start of next season. Asofa-Solomona was a major omission for Melbourne in the grand final and his absence would have been a sledgehammer blow for the club heading into the opening games of 2025.
However, they will now only have to wait until round two to partner Asofa-Solomona with the big signing of the summer – Wests Tigers prop Stefano Utoikamanu.

Hasn't every team previously applied for and been allowed to count Rep games as part of the suspension of players. I thought this was a well known thing ??yanjarra wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 4:15 pm https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-pr ... fb210da9e1

Other weird suspension timings:
Angus Crichton, Latrell Mitchell, Taylan May, Lindsay Collins, JWH, Taane Milne
Albeit some names were suspended for offences during rep games, others for off field naughties.
I think it is ridiculous, if you are suspended for two games at the end of one season, you should be sitting out the first two games the next. But the league has done this to themselves, not the Storm.
It looks like if the player would have played a rep game, they count it as a game served. If the player was unlikely to have been in a rep game, the NRL won’t approve it. That in itself is wrong, I was unaware that the NRL had strategies / coached rep teams.
