Official thread and signing news
I know there's concerns off field, but geez, Terrell may is exactly what we need on field. I feel like the club were in talks with him before he signed the latest roosters deal which sounds like its falling through. Wander who roosters are clearing house for? Wishy? Pap? Probably hunt.
Wander if the club throw fox a lifeline if pap go's, he'd probabaly go alright at fb. probably not
Plenty going on in the market, going to be interesting where it all lands

I was thinking the same thing about the roosters. Beware the roosters with money to spend. They have a plan of who they want and they always get the players they want.
I think they will not go after Hunt, as they signed an ageing half in Chad Townsend, they don’t want two. Wishart is great and he could fill a lot of spots for them, like he does for us. Paps in 2026 could replace a ageing Teddy at fullback.
The roosters worry me with the money they have.

Begs the question, would there be any players released early if they sign with another club?

Storm is toast if Sua has to replace Paps at FB. On field structure and game management will be non existent. We should desperately hope that Paps stays. Although I love Wishy, losing him can be covered more easily.

If papps was to ever play against us I would not be overly worried about him being a threat, particularly compared to other fullbacks in the league. Alot has changed in the last 4 years I just don't have any confidence in him being a difference maker against a good defensive team.

Sua is explosive and brilliant and exciting but I personally cannot see any game strategy/team management in his game yet. If we lose Paps…who realistically plays FB the way a competitive NRL needs (and don’t say Munster bc that isn’t going to happen). Wishy ?? Maybe that’s how Storm keep Wishy but FB isn’t his best position imo.

I agree Munster to FB would never happen and he couldn't handle it on a permanent basis anyway. I'd be happy to keep pap on the 750k reported but I don't think he's a 1mill player anymore particularly with the other stars on the team on big money and also with some of our other boys needing upgrades in the next couple of years.

Sallymay....a premiership contending team doesn't have a FB that's learning in my opinion. But hey that's just my opinion....Craig and Frank know best. Pappy isn't a 1 million player but the Club really needs to find a little more coin to sweeten the deal for Paps to stay.

Outside of the workaholics in Edwards and Teddy all the fullbacks now are attack/speed merchants and that's why it's really hard to believe in Paps post injuries. Sua has *a lot* to learn but he's closer to what the 2024 fullback is.Storm98 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 12:01 pm If papps was to ever play against us I would not be overly worried about him being a threat, particularly compared to other fullbacks in the league. Sallymay and other papa die hards...
just to avoid potential dissapointment for you all even though the chance is still low in my opinion, there is a not insignificant chance papa isn't at the club next year. Not sure how closely you follow the game but players who sign deals with other clubs after nov1 are often released from final year's of contracts to go early if it suits all involved. I can definitely see a scenario if papa signs elsewhere the club try to bring suas development forward a year or look for a replacement immediately. Pap likewise may want to get started earlier at the new club particularly if they offer more coin then current deal -that's what seems most important to him. New club might want him now too, if it suits everyone...he'll be gone this off season. Contracts can end early by mutual agreement, they all have that clause.

Exactly. How many times this year did pap go 100? Wasn't his main asset previously he could score from anywhere on the park at anytime?
I did see him make a lot of breaks/half breaks where he quickly had to look for his outside men or the play shut down due to his lack of outright lightning pace and a defender chasing him down in no time. Then he gets driven backwards pretty much every kick return or routine carry due his small frame halting all momentum and giving away the slowest play the ball so the other team get on top defensively. Our wingers are having to come in field more often for carries to help him out , put greater emphasis on supporting to cover his breaks where he needs a faster player to give the ball to, and scrambling out wide on goal line as he is a bit slower coming across to assist. These scenarios all increase their workloads and reduce the back 3 unit as a whole, and can lead to a slight defensive misread under pressure or coates of all people being outlept by a 2nd rower -ala the gf for both our wingers. That little bit of extra fatigue can make a difference from the energy they spend covering. So he don't offer that neither to compensate.
Then he is shying away from contact at key periods, there was multiple kick defusals he didn't go hard enough at in key periods ala the gf when lui of all people outleapt him almost resulting in try. Often when he gets picked up like he is going to be dumped he takes the coward option and throws the ball haphazardly back on the ground to his team mates in worse positions risking turnovers or knock ons, rather then taking his medicine, ala the lui strip where pap really lost it in the gf.
If you haven't seen these deficiencies in his game you ain't watching, he's not a superstar anymore. Yes... he has some really good assets in his game also, I am aware, most of them intangibles. I also did think he was a champion of a bloke, but I dunno, I think hes being a bit unfair on the club if he's gunna walk for less then a million and if he ends up going for said reason he'll have undone a lot of my admiration for him through his recoveries

DT reporting Pezet has allegedly knocked back an extension. Can't read the article...so don't know the details or whether there are issues that can be resolved.
