Jason Ryles has reportedly turned down the opportunity to take over as head coach of the Dragons in a shock move.
9News’ Danny Weidler reported the 44-year-old will instead sign with the Melbourne Storm in a “coaching role”.
The moves means Ryles could become Craig Bellamy’s successor, but he will have to wait at least another season after the master coach extended his contract for the 2024 season on May 15.

Kind of makes sense.
The Dragons’ roster is a mess and Hunt has spoken about his support for Griffin.
He returns to the Storm, with players and staff he’s worked with before, and gets the opportunity to potentially coach Munster, Grant and Hughes.

Glad the club now has an actual succession plan post Bellamy. Has felt like Ryles was going to be the coach for the last few years but it was going to come down to when Bellamy finally wanted to leave and if Ryles would remain patient or not.

I wanted billy.
Another club will offer him big money in a few years when his ready and we will lose our champion unfortunately.

Think Bellamy will take on a Parkin / Malthouse kind of role. If it works like the Parkin one I'll be happy.
Here is your quote from the Craig Bellamy coaching thread;
"Purely speculative - if Ryles isn’t at the Dragons next year, I think he will be back in Melbourne.
With that said - I’d be shocked if he wasn’t at the Dragons next year."
Are you shocked?
Really, you had a foot in both camps!
