The Top 10 of Rugby League (10 Best Storm Players)
Was given an early Christmas present recently, a book, The Top 10 of Rugby League and it's basically a list of top 10s, some based on statistics, some opinions. I found their top top 10 Storm players a bit bemusing. It seems to be from 1998-2009.
1.Cam Smith - Can't disagree with that one
2.Greg Inglis - Would have Billy here, even 2 years ago, he had 100 tries and 2 player of the year awards as well as an RLIF international player of the year award, a golden boot, a 2nd place in the dally M and a world cup player of the tournament award.
3.Billy Slater - I'd have Cooper Cronk here, though two years ago it would probably have been Kearns.
4.Cooper Cronk - I'd have Robbie Kearns, champion no matter how you look at it
5.Robbie Kearns - Here is where I'd put GI, as good as he was, he just went missing too often to be in the top 4.
6.Brett Kimmorley - Has to be up there, I'd leave that one alone.
7.Ryan Hoffman - Great clubman, but, no.7 - really?? Stephen Kearney for mine!
8.Israel Folau - Great couple of seasons but, how can you rate his contribution over that ov fellow outside backs, Geyer, Bai, Ross, Moule, Bell, Turner and King who all did it for more that 2 years? I'm putting Matty Geyer here.
9.Scott Hill - Glenn Lazarus, I know it was only 2 years, but, I have to ask the question, would the Storm have been instantly successful the way we were without him? I think not!
10.Matt Geyer - Marcus Bai, has to be!

Matt King needs to be there me thinks.
And that absence of Dallas Johnson is just criminal.
Geyer needs to be there, but so does Bai. So Scott Hill and Lazarus need to go. I think Hoffman or Folau may need to miss out also.

I just can't believe they thought Folau was one of the top 10, if we'd been perpetual cellar dwellers then maybe, but, for a club with such a rich history of champion players, no way!!
Yes Johnson I don't know how I forgot when I made my ammendments.
Maybe a top 10 is just too hard. A top 3 in each position might be fairer:

Hmm
A top whatever from inception to the 1st decade of the 21st century ?
It's such a subjective thing ! There are players who made an impact with a single game,(Craig Smith - Peter Robinson) & those who did the hard yards,(Paul Marquet - Tony Martin), in the early years. Then there are those like Sibbett,(who was never given the chance to reach potential) & Issy who make a different kind of impact. We have been fortunate to have so many Storm warriors who have made an impact to our club & sometimes the game itself.
The nature of the game has changed so much & Storm has quite often been at the pointy end of that change, but one name that should be in that top ten is.
Tawera Nuieia Nikau !!
