Read asked Hooper, “Didn’t John Bateman do exactly the same thing in that game??”

Hooper “Was is EXACTLY the same? Did Bateman go near his ears?”

Rage was in full effect. C*nt!

I wish the game had better media coverage. Barely anyone appreciates just how much it holds the game back.
I'm with you. I don't read AFL journalism but I wonder if it is as trite as NRL coverage... Certainly most of the other sports media I consume (NBA, UFC, etc) has nowhere near this level of consistently shitty mainstream 'journalism' - sure there are shitty stories to be found, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

I saw this segment on 360 last night.

The hatred that Kent and Hooper have for the Storm is truly pathetic. Aside from the stuff already quoted here, Kent was apoplectic about the fact we apparently have replica trophies of the 07 and 09 premierships at our club.

These are bitter people.

Their views that Cam influences referees is not borne out by the stats re penalties .

They would of course never mention that the NRL admitted Klein missed sinbinning Raiders . They say it did not affect the game !!

The bloke from The Australian was the voice of reason.

Read actually brought that up a few days ago (or was it last night?).

Hooper and Kent claimed that the Trbjovevic sin-bin cost the Eagles the game yet when Read raised the fact that Klein missed two sinbins in our game against the Raiders and that it may have cost the Storm the game, Hooper and Kent jumped straight in on him, "Ahhh, no, no no. No way. You can't say that would have cost them the game"... D*ckheads, what did you just finish saying about Manly!??

Someone missed the first final at AAMI Park because of an eye gouging suspension. Another player was penalised during that game for a chicken wing tackle. There was a lifting tackle penalised as well.

Gee those Storm players are grubs. Oh wait all those incidents related to Raiders players.

Paul Kent would never criticise his boyfriend’s team though.

Let's not forget that there were two shoulder charges and a crusher tackle last week by Parra and only one of those resulted in a suspension - somehow...

Oh wait, Sivo also attacked someone in the air didn't he?

Mattpoet imagine the uproar if the Storm did all those things in the same match.

Too busy highlighting that Cam Smith touched Michael Jennings' ears in a tackle (for a split second mind you).

This will cause a Storm: The 21-page dossier Souths will use to get wrestling out of the game

February 27, 2020
James Hooper
@jimmycockeater
FOX SPORTS

This is the page out of the South Sydney dossier designed to try and eradicate wrestling and grappling out of rugby league which will get all of the NRL talking.

Submitted to the NRL at the end of last year, the Bunnies spent $20,000 compiling the 21-page report and its recommendations aimed at beefing-up suspensions for any player who makes dangerous contact with the head and neck region of an opponent.

The Bunnies have been at pains to point out the dossier is not specifically designed as a Melbourne Storm “bash-up” and have included examples of all clubs wrestling over the course of last season.

Image

It’s widely accepted almost every NRL club now employs a full-time wrestling coach – the exception being Souths.

It is also well known the Storm have employed jiu-jitsu black belt John Donehue on the club’s coaching staff dating back to 2001.

Which is what makes page 19 of the Rabbitohs report to the NRL so interesting.

Under the section titled “Protecting the head and neck” there is an entire page which references the “jiu-jitsu brotherhood” and the BJJ concept of “control the head”.

Image

“This is a fundamental concept which will help with the foundations of your game,” it reads.

“The head is attached to the top of the spinal column, and can therefore be used as a “lever” to steer the entire torso of an opponent in a desired direction, or stop movement in another.

“By twisting the head you can cause your opponent great discomfort, and severely compromise the mobility of his spine.

“Also, as the head is the centre of a person’s physical awareness because it contains the brain and many of the major sense organs, it is very easy to distract and upset the rhythm of an opponent by interfering with the head.”

There is also a reference to martial arts book, The Black Belt Blue Print.

South Sydney general manager of football Shane Richardson is the official who has led the charge on this issue and genuinely wants to see wrestling and grappling tactics kept to a minimum from a player welfare point of view.

Image

Richardson argues deliberately making and manipulating contact with the head and neck region of players is equally as concerning as the issue of concussion in the NRL.

The Rabbitohs general manager of football is also the official who sparked a hostile war of words leading into last year’s finals series by calling out some of the Storm’s tactics as being “not in the spirit of the game”.

Melbourne became enraged and strongly defended the club’s position and it made headline news for a month.

Fox Sports was given a 60-minute presentation of the South Sydney dossier last month but was told it was all “strictly off the record”. The story has since been leaked.

The result of the Rabbitohs presentation at the end of last year was the NRL has appointed Scott Barker to the role of full-time “football analyst”.

A former Brisbane Broncos, Newcastle Knights and St George Illawarra video analyst, Barker has also worked with the Kangaroos and England rugby league teams and is well known as one of Wayne Bennett’s right-hand men.

Barker was employed by South Sydney last season to review every single tackle from every single NRL match with a view to compiling a report and recommendations on how to try and fix the problems.

Image

In his new full-time role, Barker will liaise with the NRL’s Match Review Committee with a view to cleaning up a variety of issues in and around the ruck area.

The wrestle and the grapple are clearly one of the target areas.

Some of the new beefed-up Match Review Committee punishments the Rabbitohs recommended to the NRL also included:

*Reckless high tackles to be referred straight to the judiciary
*Players to be hit with a minimum two week suspension if found guilty of grade one dangerous contact with the head/neck
*Players to be hit with a minimum three week suspension if found guilty of grade two dangerous contact with the head/neck
*Players to be referred directly to the judiciary if charged with a grade three dangerous contact head/neck charge

James Hooper is a deadset c*nt of a human.

Starting his whinge-fest early this year.

It is worth noting that South Sydney have had more charges (and weeks suspended) for dangerous contact and other wrestle" related charges, than any other club. Shane Richardson, Wayne Bennett and the entire South Sydney organisation are nothing but enormous hypocrites.

Every single photo used in the story is Storm tackling. The last two pics are completely innocous, with nothing to even hint at an illegal tackle.

I said it last year and I will say it again, the club should sue this f*ckhead for defamation. I have personally just been through a situation with lawyers where defamation was explored and can say that there is more than enough evidence to support defamation if the club were to pursue it.

  What a lying sack of sh*t. Melbourne remained stoically silent for weeks despite Hooper's agenda-driven smear campaign. Literally the ONLY reason that the issue remained in the headlines for weeks on end, is because of Hooper's daily tantrums, where he was desparate for a response from both the NRL and the Storm.

I swear, if any Storm player ever gives this prick a quote or sits down for a story, I will immediately lose respect for them.

‘It’s full on UFC what they’re doing’: NRL legends praise Souths’ attempts to ban wrestle
February 28, 2020
by "Staff Writers" - AKA Hooper and his b*tches

Former NRL stars Mark Geyer and Adam MacDougall have praised South Sydney’s attempts to eradicate wrestling and grappling out of rugby league.

Foxsports.com.au reported on Thursday the Rabbitohs last year prepared and submitted a 21-page report to the NRL which included recommendations aimed at beefing-up suspensions for any player who makes dangerous contact with the head and neck region of an opponent.

Melbourne has had a full-time wrestling coach on their coaching staff since 2001, and now almost every club in the NRL employs a wrestling coach, the exception being the Rabbitohs.

The result of the Rabbitohs presentation at the end of last year was the NRL has appointed Scott Barker, who reviewed every tackle from every NRL match, to the role of full-time “football analyst”.

“Hallelujah. Honestly, every year we have a new name for a different technique – the chicken wing, the cannonball,” Geyer told Triple M’s Rush Hour with MG.

“Wayne Bennett has never liked the wrestle.

“I missed out on the wrestle. I retired in 2000. In 2001, the full-time wrestlers came in.

“It’s full on UFC what they’re doing and I applaud South Sydney. I say to good luck to them because I think the horse has bolted on wrestling at the moment.

“Good on Souths for trying to buck the trend at least because if you watch the women’s game, it takes us back to that era in the 1980s where it was free-flowing … (today’s game) would be a whole different scenario without the wrestle.”

MacDougall believed that the differing views of Bennett and Storm coach Craig Bellamy on the topic of wrestling caused them to part ways while they were both at Brisbane.

“The rumour goes that Wayne Bennett has always been against wrestling,” MacDougall said.

“Craig Bellamy’s the guy – good luck to him he’s a great coach, he’s working within the rules and no one’s going to begrudge his success and the fact he’s brought this in.

“Rumour has it that him and Wayne Bennett didn’t see eye-to-eye on this early. When he was at the Brisbane Broncos, he brought in a wrestling coach – the first of the kind in the NRL.

“Wayne Bennett didn’t want anything to do with it so he stopped it. And that was one of the reasons why Craig started looking elsewhere for a coaching position, which is why he ended up in Melbourne ultimately.

“He’s always hated this, Wayne Bennett. He’s never really brought wrestling coaches into any club he’s at as a result of his dislike for it and what it’s doing to the game, so it’s a credit to him.”

MacDougall suggested the NRL banned clubs from hiring specialist wrestling coaches.

“Why are you allowing these clubs to bring in wrestling coaches? It’s ridiculous,” he said.

“I remember when I retired I came out and made some comments that the fact it was ironic I played my last game in the NRL against the Storm and I was glad I was sick of being chicken winged and choked and twisted around like a pretzel.

“It’s not a great spectacle for the game. It was awful. I was sick of going to rugby league training and doing wrestling training instead of learning how to tackle. When I first got into footy I used to love doing tackling drills.

“From a spectator’s point of view, we don’t want to see that.”
