BAR have been stripped of the 10 points that they won at Imola, and will not be allowed to race in Spain this weekend after failing a post race inspection of their cars...

The FIA have used their treatment of BAR as a warning to other teams to obey the rules. Having said that they seem to have been lying in wait for BAR all season. This was the first race they could inspect their cars as they didn't finish in the earlier races.

There's a feeling that not all teams would have received this treatment ... ie all teams are not equal. On the surface with the facts as given by the FIA all appears to be cut and dried.

BUT - the rules that were supposedly transgressed were not clear.
-Other teams have not be handled in this way
e.g.
Deference is given to Ferrarri - who are their signed up pals for the next contract. While BAR are a high profile opponent on who with the other manufacturers teams are threatening a breakaway.

When Benneton transgressed with an illegal breaking system in the season they won the championship, no penalty was ever given.

So Rules is rules
But by the same token Fair is Fair.
Both of these elements should operate not just one.

As usual in F1 there's much more to this than just the surface story.

The name Bernie Ecclestone comes to mind and when it does the concept of 'fair' seems out of place
