England beat Ireland 42-0

Australia beat Fiji 34-2

This all but assures Australia, England and Fiji passage into the quarter finals.

In order for Ireland to progress, they would have to beat Australia comfortably, there are 46 points behind Fiji and 94 behind England.

Samoa vs PNG is a key match-up too don't forget, neither side has a win yet and at least one of them must advance

USA def Wales 24-16 - Clint Newton bagged a double

Italy drew Scotland 30 all.

What does this mean?

It means that the USA only need Tonga to beat the Cook Islands and they will advance, probably against Australia as the winner of Group D plays the Winner of Group A in the quarter finals.

Group C on the other hand is far murkier.

If Tonga win tomorrow night vs Cook Islands, then Italy and Scotland will both have a win and a draw and Tonga will have a win. In the last round, Scotland plays Wales and should win but, is far from guaranteed victory. Tonga plays Italy. Tonga needs a bit to go their way to advance, such as Scotland losing, but, it is still very possible. Italy seem like very good chances to go to the quarters as do Scotland. Here's hoping for a Tongan win tomorrow as it sets up a big final round for Group C.

Group B is far from set. NZ will advance but, PNG still have to play NZ so that will be a big one. Tonight's game of Samoa vs PNG is big too, especially now that France has an atrocious points differential of -47. Each of the three teams, France, PNG and Samoa could end up with one win against each other and a loss to NZ which will make points differential crucial.

Watched the start of the samoa vs png game, thought it was pathetic that the lady singing the national anthems was reading the words from a book, how disrespectful!

How bad was PNG's first half? After about 20 minutes they had a completion rate of 33%. At the same time Samoa had a completion rate of 100%.

It was good to see Junior Moors get a game but he didn't seem to have much of an impact on the game.
