http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/leag ... 1ad7f.htmlBulldogs front-rower Ryan Tandy has been arrested by police for his alleged role in a betting sting on Canterbury's round-24 NRL match against North Queensland last year.
Detectives from the State Crime Command's Racing and Casino Investigation Unit are finalising their investigation into suspicious betting activity on the game, an inquiry that has this month used the powers of the NSW Crime Commission.

It is understood Tandy was arrested today.
His role in the match has been a centre of focus since betting agencies reported suspicious punting trends on the usually novelty option of the Cowboys to open the scoring with a penalty goal.
The alleged sting was ultimately unsuccessful after the Cowboys declined a chance to kick an easy goal after two minutes, and instead scored a try.
Tandy, who was penalised in front of the posts for lying on Cowboys half Grant Rovelli, strongly denied giving it away intentionally in an interview with the Herald published on August 28.
MORE TO COME

Explain to us exactly how this is not trolling?
You are the weakest link. Goodbye.

Nothing proved yet. And he hasn't been charged with matchfixing, merely with providing false evidence.Michael :P wrote: All I can say is thank *lima lima lima duck* the gimp aint here no more.
Let's hear the whole story before we hang the bloke.

Innocent until proven guilty is a fair point Michael but being charged for lieing to the police doesn't sound good. And the video of his knock on and particularly the penalty v Cowboys also doesn't look good.TC wrote:Nothing proved yet. I have been a big fan of Tandy since seeing him play for Balmain Ryde in NSW Cup a number of years ago and made a number of posts on here in 2009 stating why he should be promoted to Storm's first grade team. I was shattered when I heard that he had been arrested. If after the Storm finally gave him a regular chance in first grade and effectively helped him get a longer term contract and regularly first grade matches at the Bulldogs it would be a shame if he threw it all away in this manner.
I hope for his sake that the police case is unsuccessful. Having said that we don't want people in the game that are willing to "rig" matches / parts of matches.

No, there's plenty of reasons to think that piece of information came from someone rather closer to Phillip St...that's why the source was never persued.Michael :P wrote: BTW someone had a massive bet on us getting the wooden spoon, whos to say it didnt come form someone at the Storm at the time

The thing is that the NSW Crime Commission can charge you with "giving false or misleading evidence" for almost anything.Scooter wrote:Innocent until proven guilty is a fair point Michael but being charged for lieing to the police doesn't sound good. You can't claim the fifth or refuse to answer them, you can't say "I don't remember" and they are under no obligation to believe anything you do say unless you can prove it. It's not like the police and the laws that most of us are used to. As with the anti-terrorist legislation, it's guilty-until-proven-innocent and have no doubt; the CC use that as a weapon of coercion.
It's not like a normal court of law where your defense lawyer gets to argue on your behalf, it's "Tell us what we want to know" (or in some cases "tell us what we want to hear") "or we'll send you to gaol for 5 years".
Not saying he's innocent, not saying he's guilty. Just saying.
