Melbourne Storm centre, Will Chambers, has been ruled out of this Friday night’s game against Wests Tigers at AAMI Park.

Will, 24, has spent the past 48 hours in hospital after being diagnosed with the rare blood clotting disorder ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia).

Will presented to the club’s doctor on Monday with symptoms and was sent to hospital to receive treatment and undergo further tests.

Specialist doctors have cleared Will of any other significant health concerns.

At this stage he will be sidelined from football indefinitely as he recovers.

Will is undergoing treatment via medication to resolve the clotting and will be monitored for a safe return to football. At this stage the time frame for recovery is unknown.

Melbourne Storm GM Football Operations, Frank Ponissi, said the health and wellbeing of Will was of paramount concern to the club.

“The club’s focus is for Will’s welfare and health and we will continue to offer support to Will and his family,” Ponissi said.

“It has been a difficult and very worrying past few days for Will, however he is very positive about his recovery.”
All the best for a speedy recovery Will. It's been great to see him back at the club and in such good form, and he'll be missed.

Bit of a shock, although I'm surprised there has been no news on his condition until now (especially after being in hospital for the last 2 days). I hope he recovers quickly so he can keep his tryscoring rate going.

I reckon Juzzy will move into the centres with Quinny onto the wing, with possibly a surprise early return for KP to slot into the back row.

Devastating, feel for the poor man. Hopefully it's not the most serious cases of blood clotting & that he can return to the footy field. All the best Will! ♥

On to the footy side of things - I don't expect too see him back this season. I would put Maurice Blair into the centres, he proved that he is a top defensive centre and is a strong ball carrier last season, I would also like to think that he will want to make a amends for his off field incident.

Agreed I don't think we we will see Chambers back on the paddock this year, more than likely O'Neill will go to the centres with Quinn or Waqa back on the wing, although we have plenty of options, O'Neill, Blair, Moylan or Fonua could all fill in admirably.

Minimum recovery time is around 6 months best case scenario, his season is over but I don't even care about that I just pray he recovers and gets back to 100% health.
