So we all know know that exactly $1.325 million is the amount over the cap for 2011 the Storm will be if all contracts are honoured. We also now know that basically contracts can be renegotiated aslong as the amount isnt a widespread drastic drop and aslong as the contracts being renegotiated are extended as to reflect the players commitment to the club but also to their new salary. With the new laws the 2011 salary cap will be:

- $4,200,000 base.
- $100,000 added as approved by the NRL for 2011.
- $150,000 added ontop of the current $150,000 for marquee player retention and legal 3rd party deals.
- Grand total of $4,600,000 the storm can spend on their top 25 players for 2011.
**Minimum wage is $55,000 per year.

Here is the squad i would push forward with to give the storm the best chance of on field success in 2011:

1. Billy Slater - Renegotiate deal from $600,000 to $500,000 and extend deal to 2013.
2. Matt Duffie - Increase wage to $150,000 and keep commitment until 2012.
3. Chase Stanley - Honour contract until 2011 at $150,000.
4. Greg inglis - Renegotiate deal from $600,000 to $500,000 and extend deal to 2013.
5. Justin O'Neill - Re-sign to a 2 year $100,000 per year deal.
6. Gareth Widdop- Increase wage to $150,000 and keep commitment until 2012.
7. Cooper Cronk - Keep commitment of $400,000 per year until 2013.
8. Bryan Norrie - Upgrade deal to $150,000 per year until 2012.
9. Cameron Smith - Renegotiate deal from $600,000 to $500,000 and extend deal to 2013.
10. Brett White - Honour deal of $250,000 per year until 2012
11. Adam Blair - Honour contract until 2012 at $250,000 per year.
12. Sika Manu - Renegotiate deal from $200,000 to $250,000 and extend stay until 2012.
13. Kevin Proctor - Honour contract until 2011 at $150,000.

14. Rory Kostjasyn - Renegotiate deal from $55,000 to $100,000 until 2012.
15. Jesse Bromwich - Renegotiate deal from $55,000 to $100,000 until 2012.
16. John Kite - Honour contract at $100,000 until 2011.
17. Atelea Vea - Honour contract until 2011 at $150,000.

18. Fred Makimare - Minimum wage squad member at $55,000.
19. Robbie Rochow - Minimum wage squad member at $55,000.
20. Dane Chisholm - Minimum wage squad member at $55,000.
21. Luke Kelly - Minimum wage squad member at $55,000.
22. Willie Isa - Minimum wage squad member at $55,000.
23. Billy Rogers - Minimum wage squad member at $55,000.
24. Sinbad Kali - Minimum wage squad member at $55,000.
25. Rulon Nutira - Minimum wage squad member at $55,000

GRAND TOTAL - $4,390,000

Thats $210,000 under the salary cap for 2011, for rep bonuses etc.

Losses:

- Ryan Hoffman - $300,000
- Ryan Tandy - $55,000
- Dane Nielsen - $150,000
- Todd Lowrie - $200,000
- Ryan Hinchcliffe - $150,000
- Aiden Tolman - $100,000
- Jeff Lima - $200,000
- Brett Finch - $150,000
- Hep Cahill - $55,000
- Anthony Quinn - $300,000 (still confusing lol)
- Luke MacDougall - 55,000

There's 1,7 million right there, but take out the uncontracted players and your left with $1.2 million. Remember including the 2 new allowances we have to cut $1,075,000, so there is some wiggle room there.

(BTW i realise some might think these young rookies like duffie and widdop are getting too much money so early, but consider this, they are talented and all we've got, and will be playing 26 rounds in 2011, and should be paid accordingly.

Thats the plan i believe the storm need to implement. And hope the big boys stand by their word on pay-cuts.

Here's a news flash for you..................
The NRL,(News Ltd) are not interested in keeping a strong competitive team for 2011.
They just want this one disbanded.ESPECIALLY Billy - Cam - Coops - GI.
If you doubt this have a look again at the number of time it is pointed out by various stooges that it will be VERY DIFFICULT to keep Melbourne's Queensland four

Just wondering the blokes who get paid $3000 a game on top of there salary are only the minimum wage players? Or does it extend to the whole squad, because that can add up pretty quickly or if you have a few injuries. This year Norrie is on $55,000 but if he played 20 games he would be on $115,000. Adds up pretty quickly. It's not as easy as it looks.
Also if we are paying Todd Lowrie $200,000 a year we deserve to be over the cap.

Dont forget that the ones we let go and receive  less than their current contacts then the storm have to top up their new contract at another club

I feel the higher payed players like quinn, hoffman and lima will head overseas, meaning we wont have to subsidise their contracts. The rest are on 150k or less, if another club cant cover that total amount why bother releasing them? Like the inglis fiasco, no baggage for for 2011, you want them pay the full amount, or watch more talent disappear to the ESL.

The spare $220,000 should be more than enough to cover 3 or 4 games most those fringe players will play.

"You need to look at the salary cap at the point the player is on the market and he's receiving offers from others "
This is a quote from Gallop today.  If this is the case we can ask Greg to take $200k pay cut as Broncos asked him to play for them for $400k.  Wheather he would or not is another question.

Thats right and it'll work in our favour because every club wants one of the fab 4, but no one can afford them, so their market value drops with lower offers, and then we can renegotiate our contracts to something closer to the market value, should help us drop these 600k contracts by atleast 100k hopefully. This also relies on the players ACTUALLY taking the paycut, its all well and good to say it in the media, put your money where your mouths are.

That's a great list, but you might have to remove Brett White.  I just heard Brett is being chased by another club...
I was half out of the room when the news broke and I think they (they panel on NRL Tactics) mentioned the Warriors.

If cam bill and Greg all took 100k paycuts, Coops I think is worth $400k and I dont think compared to the other's price is over the top, we are down 300k already, take whitey's 250k, Quinn 300k, Hoffy 300k, Lima's 200k, lowrie 200k and luke's 55. is 1.6 ish million then the extra $100k added to cap and $150k marquee player, the new third party arrangements ( dont know exactly how they will work as I think News and NRL have kept the line blurry on them so they wont be able to work in our favour too much) makes us well and truly 500k under the cap for next year ( without the 3rd party deals)  As much as I hate losing some of these players some we just dont get value out of anymore due to injury anyway and Lima wants to go so we can start rebuilding with that 500k

I'd rather us be comfortably under and have a little room to move than to just squeeze in and potentially cause problems later.

Don't forget to add the $100000 per club long term player concession which kicks in after 8 years.
