MELBOURNE Storm are preparing to shed 10 players for next season to ensure their four superstars - Greg Inglis, Cam Smith, Cooper Cronk and Billy Slater - remain at the embattled club.
The full extent of the Storm's salary cap rorting will be revealed this week following an independent investigation by forensic auditors Deloitte.
The report was due to be handed down today but will now be tomorrow, or even Friday.
Sources have revealed Melbourne will release 10 players for next season - Ryan Tandy (who has already joined Canterbury), Brett Finch (Super League), Aidan Tolman (Canterbury), Jeff Lima (Wigan), Ryan Hoffman (Wigan), Anthony Quinn, Luke MacDougall, Todd Lowrie, Ryan Hinchcliffe and either Sika Manu or Adam Blair.
The cull means most of last year's grand final winning team will be gone, although it appears representative prop Brett White will survive along with Inglis, Cronk, Slater and Smith.

Insiders claim Melbourne will throw a bunch of kids - like Chase Stanley, Matt Duffie and Justin O'Neill - in with the remaining stars in the hope they can still be competitive and relevant. It is understood the four stars will have renewed contracts worth a combined $2.2 million, leaving 21 players to be squeezed into $2.1 million - a truly difficult assignment. Storm players on Monday met with coaching staff to discuss their future and the club's plans.
"We are unsure who is going to be at our club next season," said skipper Smith.
"There has been talk about Greg [Inglis] going to the Broncos and others maybe going to England and players being shopped around.
"I don't think there is angst between any of the players but it's a situation we would rather not be in."
Yesterday, Melbourne's independent directors met with their legal representatives. There was speculation that one Sydney-based player manager will be attacked in the report over emails he sent to then Storm CEO Brian Waldron.
News Limited instigated an audit of the club's books after the Storm were found to have systematically breached the salary cap over the last five seasons.
NRL management has not yet seen the report, nor have officials from the Storm. It is understood Deloitte delivered the report to News executives last week.
In a positive step for the club, Melbourne are poised to announce a new CEO within the next fortnight.
The NRL market is in limbo as clubs wait see how many Melbourne players will be cast off for 2011.
Some members of the Storm staff have already moved on, including high-performance manager Troy Thompson, who has joined the Melbourne Rebels.
Inglis has rejected a $400,000 a year offer from the Broncos - as well as overtures from the AFL - and is now poised to stay with the Storm.

At Long Last.!
We can now move forward.
I had a feeling this news would be leaked after midnight and it was.
Now its going to be a game of checkers to see if we can keep Blair, White, Neilson and a few others.
I just had a look at LU and it is already in overdrive

So we finally get a clear look at our probable 2011 line up:
1. Billy Slater

4. Greg Inglis
5. Dane Nielsen
6. Gareth Widdop
7. Cooper Cronk
8. Bryan Norrie
9. Cameron Smith (c)
10. Brett White
11. Sika Manu/Adam Blair
12. Kevin Procter
13. Billy Rogers
14. Rory Kostjasyn
15. Sione Kite
16. Jesse Bromwich
17. Atelea Vea
18. Justin O'Neill
19. Dane Chisholm
20. Sinbad Kali
21. Louis Fanene
22. Blake Leary
23. Robbie Rochow
24. Fred Makimare
25. Luke Kelly

Don't forget that if the long term player concessions are also authorised before the end of the year, there is another at least $500000 that we can knock off the breach right away. So we have $1.3 million, down to $1 million due to extra cap and new marquee allowance etc, then maybe down to $500000 if the concessions are approved by the NRL board. I'd imagine that with the players already going or already gone we are pretty close to that already

I reckon Ballsup will be prepared to annoy other NRL clubs just to completely screw Melbourne Storm by NOT introducing the long serving player concessions until after Storm has shed all those players.Crippstor wrote: Don't forget that if the long term player concessions are also authorised before the end of the year, there is another at least $500000 that we can knock off the breach right away. He seems like a nasty, spiteful and vindictive sort of fellow.

You may be right, though our hope is that because the Roosters are 1 club who will benefit, Polites power will get this pushed through.Storm Spirit wrote:

As for Mr Gallop, I believe my local council make you pick up things like him in a plastic bag after your dog leaves them behind on the footpath

As of right now that is probably pretty close to what we'll go with next year. We can win if 3 players stand up and take there game to new levels.1999 wrote: So we finally get a clear look at our probable 2011 line up:

Those three being Sione Kite, Kevin Proctor and Jesse Bromwich. To be any chance theyre the ones who need to raise the bar.

i would really like to keep Hinchy...reckon he is a CHAMP (of sorts) !
Liked him as a player at Canberra...so was rapt when he ended up at Storm.
Although the media speculation is that he may have signed elsewhere.

By the sounds of the articles today regarding the report - it's not worth the paper it's written on. This is not over yet unfortunately I don't think

I just can't wait until 2011 when I can turn up and support the team to actually win points. Sorry, I am getting really frustrated with this season. It has completely taken the wind out of my sails.
2012 premiers. Legit.

When Melbourne Storm are tearing the NRL, Ballsup and every other team a new one in 2011 and beyond........the pain and sorrow of 2010 will make victory even sweeter.
I can't wait.
