Billy Slater
Off contract from what i read. Im starting to get worried about whether he will stay or go.
Great player. More consistent then GI, and was the best player in all finals games in 09 which helped
us roll into the GF.
I havnt heard much about him gettin offers from other clubs tho.. not yet anyhow.
Just the union and afl talk.
Id really hope he stays at Melbourne.

Off contract means he can sign a brand new deal for less without breaking his current one.
Or
He could leave and wouldnt have half his contract paid by the Storm in next years salary cap.

"Better to have Won then Lost, than to have never won at all" Arrogant, but true hahahaha

If he left he'd probably be able to demand the same amount as the Storm were paying him.bula wrote: Off contract means he can sign a brand new deal for less without breaking his current one.

I think he has an opt out clause like Issy.
Technically speaking he could opt out and re-sign for 1 year at 100 or 150k just to stick it up Gallop.

Star Melbourne Storm fullback Billy Slater has agreed to a new contract which will keep him at the NRL club until the end of 2012.The retention of Slater is another coup for the Storm, who have also signed skipper Cameron Smith, Greg Inglis and Cooper Cronk as well as coach Craig Bellamy to new deals in recent months.Melbourne chief executive Brian Waldron said the Storm were delighted to have retained the fullback, who was voted the world's best rugby league player last year.Waldron said Slater, 26, could have earned more money by switching codes or going to a rival league club in Australia or England."Cooper (Cronk) started it last year when he said publicly how important it was to remain here and they have followed suit," Waldron said on Thursday.Slater said there had been interest in his services from other clubs, but he enjoyed living in Melbourne and there was more he wanted to achieve with the Storm."You've got to weigh up a lot more than money, you have to weigh up being happy," he said."It's a successful club here with a lot of my mates.

If Slater is off contract it is because the rumours said he had the words - this payment is included in the salary cap - which means Storm breached his contract. If I was a player or a player manager I would have this written into any contract I signed after this.
We live to play, we play to win, We try and try, we won’t say die, we won’t give in
Not sure whether this is worth saying, but Billy doesn't want to go back to Queensland. He actually finds his home town of Innisfail too hot and is well and truly used to the Melbourne weather. Most of the players got a get-out clause in their contracts and it all has to do with whether Bellamy stays or goes. Let's hope we keep him and everyone else.
2012 premiers. Legit.

End of the day all of the big four would want to stay,well... thats what they say,
but it will depend how things unfold,
they be willing to take paycuts if allowed, but they wont play for peanuts,
Its all too early to jump to conclusions, alot of water has to still pass under the bridge before we know the outcome.

I think if all this bloody mess has taught us anything ,it is not to beleive a word that come out of Waldron's mouth!!!! and as muchas I would like to in this instance,as I have said before the guy is a spin Dr and his words mean nothing1999 wrote: Star Melbourne Storm fullback Billy Slater has agreed to a new contract which will keep him at the NRL club until the end of 2012.The retention of Slater is another coup for the Storm, who have also signed skipper Cameron Smith, Greg Inglis and Cooper Cronk as well as coach Craig Bellamy to new deals in recent months.Melbourne chief executive Brian Waldron said the Storm were delighted to have retained the fullback, who was voted the world's best rugby league player last year.Waldron said Slater, 26, could have earned more money by switching codes or going to a rival league club in Australia or England."Cooper (Cronk) started it last year when he said publicly how important it was to remain here and they have followed suit," Waldron said on Thursday.Slater said there had been interest in his services from other clubs, but he enjoyed living in Melbourne and there was more he wanted to achieve with the Storm."You've got to weigh up a lot more than money, you have to weigh up being happy," he said."It's a successful club here with a lot of my mates.
Who Dares Wins!!!
In the interview after the game on Friday asking him about the stadium he said something like "I can't wait to play here on Sunday for the Storm as our new home ground and look forward to playing many more games here" I know it's only a small thing and you can read into it what you will butI don't think he wants to leave and i doubt he will.
