Apparently, Brisbane should have been allowed to draw from a pool of experienced halfbacks to replace Wallace on Saturday night. He thought the game was boring and one sided because Brisbane couldn't field a proper halfback. He wants a specialised pool of halfbacks, take the halfback out of the salary cap, and allow each club to have 5 halfbacks in store to make sure what happened to Brisbane doesn't happen again.

Well Gus - how about each club doing what the Storm does? Ever since the early years, Storm has had players that were versatile - could play in multiple positions. Whether it be Boofa, Nathan Friend, or even now the ability of Cam, Billy, Coops, GI, Finch all switching around the playmaker roles.

Why is Gus crying in his Wheaties over Brisbane's decision to not train versatility to the squad?

Broncos are versatile.

Could off used Hunt at 7.

Oh that'd mean they'd need a pool of FBs

:D

Maybe David Gallop could initiate a Scheme where 5 brains are grown in a laboratory and each one is grafted separately into Gus' head to see if one will stick.

I don't think I have heard of a more ridiculously stupid suggestion.

Well said Buzz....why not just develop a flexible playing rooster...which takes skill, understanding, committment and knowledge to achieve.

Any clown could just invent a system with 65 blokes on a playing roster so that there is 4 covering every position on the park.  :?

halfbacks shouldnt be exempt from the cap when the club is stupid enough to use up 1/10th of the clubs salary cap on one player who can only play one position! eg. izzy

Isn't this the point of the under 20's, to breed players capable of playing in first grade.
also do the broncos have a feeder team in the queensland cup. what a great confidence boost it must be to the lower grade players at Brisbane.
That's sport Gus, teams have been delt adversity since the beginig of time.
If there is a players pool can the storm use it around origin time giving us a full-back, centre, hooker, lock and any other position that the NSWRL and QRL want to 'deprive us of' during that time.

D!ck !!!
just my opinions......critique them, don't criticise me!!!

hmmm, I wonder why Gus didn't suggest this after the 2008 Grand Final, when we could have used a pool of experienced hookers to replace Smithy  ::)

Not one of his brightest ideas thats for sure.

I never used to like the guy but in recent years he has said many things that I have agreed with.
I just don't agree with him on this.

Some may disagree but I'd rather listen to Gus waffle on than Warren "the grapple tackle" Smith on Foxtel.

Warren Smith is a total disgrace.
Gus is good. Insightful and rarely misses a beat, but he's wrong on this. Injuries are a part of football and indeed any sport. It's the depth you have to cover it that gets you through.
Who would have thought Ryan Tandy would step up like he has in the past month?
2012 premiers. Legit.

This is where I think Bellamy and the coaching staff should be congratulated for their player & interchange management.  Late in games where the result is pretty much decided, particularly with even bigger games on the horizon, Bellamy always seems to be able to take off four of our stars to give them a rest and make sure they don't pick up any injuries or suspensions.  It's the way he and the rest of the coaching staff have managed the team this year that has enabled us to "stroll" into our fourth grand final in better shape than ever before.  It's something that Bellamy obviously learnt the hard way last year.

Henjak has just had the same lesson.  The Broncos had well and truly wrapped up that game, and yet he left all of their big guns out there in the last 5-10 minutes.  It was just silly.  I commented at around the 70 minute mark that this is where Bellamy would start replacing some of our big stars.  But Henjak refused to do anything, and they paid the price.  Tough titties!

And besides all of that, accidents happen.
