Rabbitohs to play 'home' game in Perth-NRL.com
By Justin Chadwick

South Sydney are set to play NRL "home" matches in Perth and Gosford next season.
The Rabbitohs' home game against current premiers Melbourne will be held at Perth's Members Equity Stadium - giving Western Australia its first taste of NRL action since 2005.
Souths CEO Shane Richardson also indicated on Tuesday that a home match against Newcastle will be played in Gosford as the club looks to spread its brand.
"We are looking at ways to spread the appeal of the Rabbitohs and to bring in new money to the club and the game, and that is the thinking behind taking a game to Western Australia next season," Richardson said.
"We are confident that we will be playing the Melbourne Storm in Perth in 2009 as well as playing the Newcastle Knights in Gosford.
"We want to thank the NRL and the WARL for their support and partnership in this project, and we'll be working hard to get everyone in Perth behind the Rabbitohs in 2009.
"This is a positive move for the club as we look for additional ways to build our business and continue to push forward in a competitive national sporting market."

Fair enough for the Bunnies to spread their brand. Unfortunately Perth is AFL & Ra-Ra, so i don't know how well it's gonna go. Hope it goes well for them cos the Bunnies deserve a windfall.
The only thing faster than Billy Slater is the speed at which opposition fans leave Olympic Park after they lose!
Probably get 2,000 people turn up so its no different from them playing in Sydney

I remember Roy and HG mentioning the Souths playing games in WA quite a few months back. Saying how there would be bus loads of bunnies supporters trekn across the country. I didnt know at the time why they were saying it as I would have missed the start of their show. They were funny as they always are.
Ive never been to Perth, be a good excuse to see the place.

Never been to Perff so this would be a good excuse to go
Members Equity is a rectangular pitch (Glory's home ground) so it should be a good ground to watch.

The Glory's crowds at the moment are fairly ordinary so it would be a win for the NRL if this game could beat the average Glory attendance

Lets not forget the last NRL game to be played over there (on a suburb paddock) got a little over 8,000 to the game. Which I think wasn't to bad.
Played closer to the city and on a better ground could see a few more attend.
There were also a few records made and broken in that game as well.

The Glory's poor crowds have more to do with the fans disenchantment at how the clus is being run than anything else.Bullets wrote: The Glory's crowds at the moment are fairly ordinary so it would be a win for the NRL if this game could beat the average Glory attendance
Perth is a fantastic city and the game will be well attended.
Plenty of ex-Kiwis and South Africans there, and while they prefer union, there are a lot of league fans there as well.
2012 premiers. Legit.

Luckily we were wearing our classic Gold jersey that day or else we wouldn't be able to see the team running aroundStormwarning[c] wrote: Lets not forget the last NRL game to be played over there (on a suburb paddock) got a little over 8,000 to the game. Which I think wasn't to bad.
They won't have these problems at ME stadium thanks to the floodlighting around the ground
