Lima sticks with the Storm

May 02, 2008

MELBOURNE have re-signed Jeff Lima through to the end of the 2011 NRL season after the New Zealand Test prop rejected a lucrative offer from the Bulldogs.

Lima held talks with the Bulldogs earlier this week but they were unable to convince the 25-year-old to leave the defending premiers.

His decision to remain with the Storm for a further three years is a massive blow for the Bulldogs who are yet to make a big dent in the player market despite having plenty of room to move under the salary cap.

Lima joined the Storm in 2006 after returning from a stint in France, the former Wests Tigers forward happy to repay Melbourne for giving him another opportunity in the NRL.

"The Storm gave me a chance to get back into the NRL and for that I will be eternally grateful," Lima said.

"The winning attitude of the players here and the determination of the coaching staff for continued success makes this the best place for me to play my football."

Lima's re-signing comes a day after Storm backrower Sam Tagataese announced he had signed with the Gold Coast next season.

Good to see players like this returning to the team the faith that was shown in them. Jeff has really become a formidable player under Bellamy, and I think that is a key reason for him, and hopefully, others staying.

I think thatr Belly-ache is worth every cent we are paying for him, and to have a long-term commitment from him will, no dout retain a strong core of players in Melbourne

(Especially after he takes NSW to a 3-0 series win over QLD)

Haha good on him. From a nobody to a starter in the best side in the comp. He's made his way up through determination and hard work.

Kudos to you Jeff.  Nice to see it isn't always the big $$$$ that matter.

i read an article from the HS on my phone today and it was saying that jeff hasnt signed yet. and that he will make the decision this week. it also had a quote from ponissi(sp) saying something along the lines of 'we want him to stay but he is still considering a deal from the doggies. :?

I think they have republished a story from a week ago as the NRl and storm site say he has signed i.e. past tense.

If they have, it's very poor form. The article is dated May 3 though. Posted my 2¢, hopefully it gets published.

Btw that Manuel guy who posted before me there, doesn't he realize the club has thought of that long and hard before setting up shop in Queensland and later Central Coast?

Amazing, now they have deleted it, and replaced it with 'lima staying' dated the day before!

I think the announcement must have been made lateish Friday night, and the article was written and printing had started.
Great news on Jeff though... the Bellamy factor just kicked in with its first result!
