News - Halfback Gower Seeking Release

There was an article in the Sunday Telegraph about betting being suspended on to make the top 8, miss the top 8 and wooden spoon.

This was after someone put $2,000 on the Panthers to get the spoon (to win $26,000) and Storm to win the comp to gain $52,000.

These bets were made before anything came out about the Craig Gower situation - by someone who they say is very close to the Gower camp with "inside knowledge".....

Lord Reynoldson I'm still going to wait for a direct quote from Gower that he's looking to leave Penrith before I believe it, not his manager but Mr. Gower himself.

There was news release today saying he was looking for a release and Melbourne had the money under the cap to afford him :shock:
Would be good to have him but that would mean the work put into Cronk will be paid off on whichever club he decides to play with after leaving Melbourne.

This has to be a windup - I don't want Melbourne Storm to become a side that has people involved who want to escape the Sydney media hype - I want them to join Melbourne Storm because they want to be part of a winning team and to get Rugby League on the map in Melbourne.  Anyway where is the money coming from.

Cooper Cronk will do me just fine - I don't want him to be built up as a halfback to go through the hassles of p......ing off at a later date.

Gower has often been seen socialising with the Storm players at the players after match funtions whenever Penrith played in Melbourne and not with his own team mates. He obviously has a few mates down here in the Storm camp. I've always wondered if the opportunity arose, would he join the club so it wouldn't at all surprise me if it happens. I'm still undecided if its a good or bad thing if it did...

We are a bit like the Natrional Rugby League Re-hab centre for disillusioned NewSouthWelshmen and Queenslanders.

Michael Crocker's incidents from the past couple of years.
Chris Walker being......well, Chris Walker
and possibly Craig Gower, the Panthers ex 'disgraced' I believe the term they used captain.

But hey, when we started the club was almost solely consisting of the unheard of and the unwanted.

Now we're just picking up those who want out of Sydney.

i personally would love to see Gower down here, he's represented at the highest level, won a grand final, and i reckon hes a top halfback! Plus theres the added incentive of probably meeting his missus, Amanda Flynn! ohh shes sooo hot!! haha

yeah but that doesn't mean he wants a release if it did Monas being in the Storm corperate box during our game against the Roosters in round 20 would mean he wants to seek a release from Manly and sign with Melbourne, BTW he doesn't as Monas has said many times.

don't know how i feel about this one... Gower is a quality half, but I want Cronk to have first crack at it - he is the future! Unless of course, the coaching staff don't see him developing enough to lead a club - and they know more than we do

I'm with you on this one SS. I find myself undecided for the reasons you put so I'll basically kick back and wait and see what comes out in the next few days.

cross is a tough bastard on the field...like crocker, but from what ive heard from raider fans he is a really nice guy off field, unlike gower.

that's if the reports are true.  Yes it's on the NRL's website but I still don't believe them.
