And where is Hooper on this one??? Too busy trying to sew discord at our club to notice the obvious - Wayne Bennett coached teams are usually the dirtiest out there.

Cameron Smith calls out off-limits criticism, but it won’t force him to retire

Melissa Woods, Fox Sports
September 5, 2019

Melbourne skipper Cameron Smith says constant criticism - both personal and of his playing style - won’t force him out of the NRL.

The Storm hooker has recently been under attack for his tackling technique, his relationship with referees and an NRL gift to his wife Barbara as part of his record 400-game celebrations.

With one year remaining on his current deal, the 36-year-old says such criticism won’t drive him into retirement before he is ready.

“It’s expected this time of year, for all the articles to start coming out from up north,” Smith said.

“But in no way will that ever force me into retirement, not at all.

“I can’t control what’s said about my team, what’s said about myself - it’s unfortunate those things happen and I would have thought they’d spend more time celebrating the game and the success this club’s had for such a long time.

“It’s unfortunate but it won’t be forcing me into retirement at all.”

Smith was under fire when the NRL presented Barbara with a $15,000 ring to celebrate her husband’s 400th game.

The former Kangaroos and Queensland captain said while he could wear attacks on himself, he was angered when his family was included.

“When they try and drag family into it I think that’s pretty low journalism,” he said.

“At no point should any athlete’s family be brought into media or trying to drive agendas.

“I’m used to copping a bit of criticism - unfortunately it’s part of our job - whether that’s right or wrong and all I can control is what I do on the weekend and at training.”

What, no fox journo prepared to put their name on an article on Smith unless it's an outright attack?

It was amazing seeing Kent and Hooper defend Raiders player Hudson Young's horrific eye gouge on NRL360 last night. Kent is nothing but Ricky Stuart's puppet.
Paul Kent wrote:I think he's actually got a really good case to get off. There's no evidence he dug into his eye, if anything he got his eyebrow.
Kent said that with a straight face...

Paul Kent needs to remove his mouth from Ricky Stuarts ass. He does similar with Mary McGregor. Protects his mates, buries others. Hypocrisy is his bread and butter.

Hooper was incensed that Sam Burgess will miss a week for pulling Cam Murray's hair. Burgess received the lowest possible Contrary Conduct charge and would have just received a fine had it not been for his horrific judiciary record. Then in the next breath whinged that Cameron Smith only received a "concerning act notice" for the jersey pull on Bailey Simonsson.

Fox Sports updated the story headline on this one

"Haven’t you got a final to play Cam? Smith STILL whingeing about his treatment in the press"

F*ck these pricks... honestly. How about this one...

"Haven't you got some sports journalism to do? Fox Sports and the Daily Telegraph STILL whingeing about Cam Smith"

I also love that the headline is that Cam is STILL whingeing about it, yet in the same actual article it states that Smith is "speaking for the first time about the incident"

You're expecting the dumbarses who read those articles to notices those subtleties, not bloody likely!
Fox, journalism to the lowest common denominator.

Real reason fans hate Cameron Smith
Mark St John
Fox Sports
September 26, 2019

Craig Bellamy can’t cop the hate directed at Cameron Smith but this is why it exists.

Paul Kent and James Hooper have refuted claims from Craig Bellamy that Cameron Smith wouldn’t be picked on if he played in Sydney.

Paul Kent and James Hooper have fired back at claims from Craig Bellamy that Cameron Smith is unfairly criticised because he is not at a Sydney club.

Bellamy believes that the hate directed at Smith is about tall poppy syndrome given Smith’s success at Melbourne.

“His coach Craig Bellamy came out and was quite staunch for his defence of the captain for the criticism he has been copping,” Ben Ikin told NRL 360.

“He can’t quite get his head around why Cameron is being positioned as the villain.”

However Kent believes the tension around Smith has been building throughout his career and thinks it has nothing to do with who he plays his club football for.

“It is a slow boil this one and it has been simmering under the surface of the game for some years and it is starting to come out now,” Kent said.

“I think Craig Bellamy is misguided a little bit from the point of view of he thinks it is a anti-Melbourne pro-Sydney agenda.

“His quote was if Cameron was playing for a Sydney club it wouldn’t be there, which is just ridiculous.

“Wests hate Canterbury and Roosters hate Souths and Parramatta hate Canterbury and Canterbury hate Parramatta.

“That rivalry exists in the city, so it is not a Melbourne thing. Most Sydney people have always wanted Melbourne to do well.

“I think if you are a Wests fan you have more important hatreds here in the city.”

Journalist Brent Read countered that every team in Sydney hates Melbourne, but Hooper explained that it is less to do with the Storm’s success as it is to do with perceived preferential treatment towards the former Queensland and Australian skipper.

“It has nothing to do with the fact they are based down in the southern capital,” Hooper said.

“It has got everything to do with the fact that for years and years now we have had the ‘referee Cameron’ gags that he is able to negotiate and game manage a match with the officials better than any other player in the game.

“Then you have only got to go back to that issue with Bailey Simonsson. He gets a concerning act. If that is Sam Burgess or Jared Waerea-Hargreaves they are not get concerning act. They are getting a contrary conduct actual whack around the ear suspension.”

100% accurate.

That is all the evidence anyone will ever need to prove just how full of sh*t Paul Kent and James Hooper are. What an absolute load of sh*t. These pricks both deserve to be hit by a bus.

Brent Read did well to call these muppets out on their idiotic logic.

When Hooper was banging on about Cam's supposed preferential treatment, Hooper said in relation to the jersey pull on Bailey Simmonssen, "If that was Josh McGuire or Sam Burgess or JWH, they wouldn't be getting a concerning act notice.

Oh really??? The same McGuire who received two fines for eye gouging before he was suspended after a third time?
The same Sam Burgess who decapitated Matt Moylan only to escape a ban?
The same Sam Burgess who accussed the game of conspiracy and got away without so much as a fine?
The same JWH who knocked a guy completely unconscious and escaped a ban?

Jesus Hooper is a scumbag. He is so deluded and agenda driven, that he cannot even tell when he is being a gigantic hypocrite.

Mate, don't read the stories. They work off clicks... More people clicking on them = more articles written just like it.

I would love to ignore them... for the reason you have listed above and my own blood pressure. I just can't help myself

I wish the game had better media coverage. Barely anyone appreciates just how much it holds the game back.
