Sat 27th July
7:35pm
AAMI Park

Previous recent meetings:
14th July 2018 - Storm 14 def Sea Eagles 13
19th May 2018 - Sea Eagles 24 def Storm 4

A true rivalry game. Battle of the benevolent, professional Storm vs the malevolent, scumbag Sea Eagles.

This will be a very interesting game. We are riding a 9 game win streak. Manly have won 4 of their past 5, with their only loss a 1 point loss to the Rabbitohs. Since coming back from injury, Tom Trbjjevjvjejjvich has been killing it and must be stopped if we are to win this one.

I think there must be a couple more 4 and 8 point scrabble pieces in Tom's name!

Storm v Sea Eagles - Round 19 preview
NRL.com
Tue 23 Jul 2019

Few footy followers would've expected Manly to be so high on the ladder after 18 rounds, but coach Des Hasler has transformed this team and shaped it into a formidable force.

The Sea Eagles have been the biggest surprise packet by far in 2019 and they aren't done yet if last week's bullying of Parramatta is any indication.

They have a dead-set star on the rise in Rueben Garrick, while Tom Trbojevic is playing as well as anyone in the competition.

In the blue corner are the Storm, who appear certain to claim another minor premiership and are perfectly placed to progress to a fourth successive grand final.

The Rundown

Key match-up
They were teammates for Queensland in the recent Origin series but playmakers Cameron Munster and Daly Cherry-Evans will be up against each other on Saturday night. Munster will be fresh and ready for action after being rested for last week's win over the Titans, while DCE is playing like a man who senses his team can go a long way.

For the Storm to win
Munster will be looking to provide his usual sting in attack, especially if the game is on the line in the closing stages. Craig Bellamy also welcomes back Felise Kaufusi, Will Chambers, Josh Addo-Carr and Christian Welch so he has no shortage of class and experience. Melbourne will be aiming to take away Manly's attacking flair, while Cam Smith's impeccable game management in the final 15 minutes will be a key factor.

For the Sea Eagles to win
If the Sea Eagles have serious title aspirations they surely must be relishing the chance to take on methodical Melbourne in enemy territory. They are in good form and it's obvious that Des Hasler has them believing in the process. The Sea Eagles need to play their own game on Saturday and stay patient if the points don't come early. If they can keep it close they have the match-winners to steal the Storm's thunder.

Brett Kimmorley says
There have been some brutal battles between these sides over the last two years. Des has his side absolutely flying. I’m looking forward to the forward battle. Martin Taupau and Addin Fonua-Blake are probably the best front-row combination going around at the moment but I expect Jesse Bromwich and Nelson Asofa-Solomona might want to make a statement in this game. Storm by 1

Stat Attack
Melbourne are setting the pace at the top of the Telstra Premiership ladder and also lead the way in no less than nine key statistical categories, including set completion (80%), possession (49%), run metres (28,097) and line breaks (78).

And another thing ...
Are we headed for the third grand final showdown between Melbourne and Manly in 13 years? The Roosters, Rabbitiohs and Raiders might have something to say about that but the Sea Eagles are the real deal. The Storm claimed a 34-8 win over Manly in the 2007 premiership decider before the Sea Eagles exacted revenge a year later with a 40-0 rout. Manly have played in two grand finals since then, while Melbourne have appeared in five.

This will be a nice little post origin test for us.

It's weird that I just don't care much about Manly these days. They have some fun players to watch and outside of maybe Walker, there aren't many dickheads on the team.

Didn't see much in that Suli tackle. The NRL are going a little overboard with suspensions. Although he gets a way with a ton so maybe this is a little bit of karma?

Honestly thought Suli was lucky not to be sin binned.

You are a more forgiving man than me. The rhetoric and behaviour of the Manly fans particularly from 07-13 (but even some fans now tbh) was unforgivable. I look forward to the day that their sh*t club folds and the pain that would bring their (mostly) sh*t fanbase. I appreciate that I come off bitter and b*tchy. I don't really care.

Suli wasn't expecting him to jump and he was trying to time his run to make a solid hit. It was 100% dumb, but on the Suli scale of 'dumb things done on a footy field', it wasn't particularly noteworthy.

Seemingly Earl and Olam win the vacant backline spots. Based on recent performances that seems fair enough.

Fair enough but gee Seve had a good game on the weekend, certainly did his best to grab that spot.

Has Sandor Earl played any home games this year or is this his first appearance at AAMI Park?

‘It’s a disgrace’: Manly legend Max Krilich’s vicious verbal attack on Cameron Smith
Dean Ritchie
23 Jul 2019

Manly legend Max Krilich has given Cameron Smith an incredible serve, claiming the Melbourne skipper has referees running “scared”.

Manly legend Max Krilich has given Cameron Smith an incredible serve, claiming the Melbourne skipper is allowed to get away with too much with the game’s referees.

Ahead of the Sea Eagles’ clash with the Storm at AAMI Park on Saturday, Krilich said that match officials are “intimidated” by Smith who wasn’t playing in the “spirit of the game”.

“Cameron comes in as the third tackler and is then the last man up. He slows it up to perfection — he’s the master,” Krilich told The Daily Telegraph.

“He is third man in, rolling all over the ball. This has gone on for many years.”

NRL 360 host Paul Kent reckoned plenty of people would agree with Krilich’s comments.

“What Max Krilich has said will resonate with fans around the game,” Kent said.

“The argument is there’s discretion to how long you can lay on a player and keep him down.

“The argument is Cameron Smith is allowed to get away with more than other players in the game.”

Krilich, who played for the Sea Eagles, NSW and Australia across a first grade career from 1970 to 1983, said the referees needed to stand up to the 401-game veteran.

“Melbourne lay all over the ball and the players but it’s ruled play on because it’s Cameron,” Krilich said.

“He will stand there and complain and the referees will say: ‘Oh, c’mon, Cameron’. It’s just not on. They’ve got to be tough.

“What he does isn’t in the spirit of the game — it’s not right — and he is getting away with it.

“The referees are scared to penalise him and it seems everything he does is squeaky clean. We need the referees to toughen up. I have no doubt the referees are very intimidated by him.

“They are scared of him and it’s a disgrace.”

1. No surprises here. It's late July and we are on top of the table. These stories are not just predictable anymore. They are certain.

2. Hate Smith all you want, don't invent your own facts to try and back your claim up. Smith always third man in? He is the primary target for front rowers because of his size in the middle of the park. Far more often than not, he is the first contact and wraps the ball up until other defenders can get there and help. Claiming otherwise is purely evidence of this entire thing just being a crybaby, sour grapes sook.

3. Dean Ritchie with some of that dogsh*t journalism we have come to expect from him and the DT. No skill or eloquence to pen a thought provoking RL piece, or a genuine hype up talking about the intense rivalry, nah... Take the hack approach of appealing to the dumbasses with a bitter axe to grind.

4. Again no surprises that Paul Kent was so eager to talk about this and support Krilich's position. Scumbag.
