Stats That Matter - Round 25

191

Scott Drinkwater. After Friday night Storm fans might want to start remembering the name. The kid was sensational in his first NRL game, running for a game-high 205 metres. He did not look one bit out of place under the bright lights of AAMI Park, attacking the line with speed which eventually culminated in a blitzing try to give his side a shot at the end. The loss was disappointing but the purple army will walk away feeling even better for what the future holds for this team with a wealth of young talent.

100

Melbourne Storm prop Jesse Bromwich played his 100th game at AAMI Park on Friday night. Bromwich became the second player to reach his century at AAMI Park following teammate Cameron Smith, who achieved the milestone a fortnight ago against Parramatta. Bromwich will notch 200 NRL games next week when he runs out for a Qualifying Final.

Storm controlled the possession count but could not translate that into points. Melbourne likely saw their chances go begging in the first half when they had 62 per cent of possession yet could not build a sizeable lead. A large part of that would be down to playing with an entirely new spine who had never set foot on an NRL field together before.

It was a weird game when you think about it...

Some of my own 'Stats That Matter'.

12
We only missed 12 tackles total but conceded 22 points. Put this down to the way that the Panthers scored some of their tries. You make your own luck however you can consider some of their tries 'arsey' at best.
1. Intercept.
2. Kick deflection (+3 more Panthers kicks).
3. From a Panthers kick/horrific execution by Olam.
4. A winger barging over from DH ::) (Scott/Olam - FMD)

The Panthers quick hands try was great, but chalk that up to Curtis Scott's lazyness - not something we see from Storm players most of the time.

11 & 61
We received 11 first half penalties (to 4) and 2 Panther players sinbinned. Off the back of that, we enjoyed 61% posession in the half. We also spent 30 minutes of the half in Panthers territory... We managed to score 1 try with that weight of posession and field position.
