Melbourne Storm vs New Zealand Warriors
Wed April 25th 2018, 7:00pm
AAMI Park

One of, if not my favourite regular season home game of the year. Really looking forward to this one. The Warriors have been playing outstanding footy so this will be a tough contest. We will need to hold on to the ball and be committed in defence if we are to be a chance.

Thought Glasby did quite well at 13 last week. Hope he manages a repeat performance.

Kaufusi brothers moving up in the brother rankings if Pat is named today. Bromwich brothers barely holding onto second spot.

Massive game for our Club: Smith
melbournestorm.com.au
Sun 22 Apr 2018

There is no bigger home and away game this season.

On Wednesday night Storm will take on the Warriors in an ANZAC Day clash with a long list of reasons why fans should book their tickets quickly.

The most unique and electrifying pre-game show in Australian sport will be back with the AAMI Park black out. This annual blockbuster attracts massive crowds on average of more than 23,000 every year.

Both sides will be coming off just five-day turnarounds but there is no concern at all about being ready to go by the time the first ball is kicked at 7pm on Wednesday night.

"It is not a hard game to get up for this one, the ANZAC Day game," Storm captain Cameron Smith said.

"It is a massive occasion and a massive game for our Club, and for the Warriors as well.

"We all enjoy playing on this day, it is a special day for both countries. To get to play rugby league on this day is pretty special. I think everyone will be up for it."

This year sees both sides in great form heading into the game.

Melbourne have begun to regain their mojo with back-to-back wins and an impressive runaway win over the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Friday.

The Warriors on the other hand have barely put a foot wrong all season, losing just the one game and last round overcame the previously unbeaten Dragons.

This fifth versus second clash has all the hallmarks of an epic.

"We have always shown great respect to the Warriors every time we've played them," Smith said.

"The Warriors are playing fantastic, they are the current (equal) leaders of the competition. They look like they are enjoying their football and they are playing some pretty good football as well.

"This will be a good test for us... we are really happy with how we've performed over the last two weeks."

Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 6.30pm in time for the AAMI Park blackout.

Tohu has been ruled out after a head knock last week. Unfortunate for Tohu to miss a massive game but from a purely selfish position, I am glad we won't have to play against him. He has been killing it for the Warriors.

Shaun Johnson and Solomone Kata are expected to return for the Warriors, who beat the undefeated Dragons last week without the two star players.

From NRL.com

Key match-up: Issac Luke was one of the NRL's leading hookers during the nine years he was with Souths. He seemed to lose some of his enthusiasm and love for the game in his first two years with the Warriors, but the man nicknamed 'Bully' has rediscovered the passion and confidence that make him such a fun player to watch. Luke stole the show with an outstanding performance in his team's defeat of the Dragons and will give his side a good chance of conquering Melbourne if he can out-play the brilliant Cameron Smith.

For the Warriors to win: Simplistic as it seems, the Warriors need a well prepared game plan they believe in and they also need the discipline to stick with it for 80 minutes. They got it right last week against the Dragons and will need an equally committed effort against the defending champs.

For the Storm to win: It takes a lot to intimidate the Storm and even then it doesn't guarantee a victory. If Smith ensures his teammates are ready for the Warriors' early onslaught, the Storm should be too clever and classy over the 80 minutes, especially with Munster in such sparkling form.

Warriors stat attack: Winger David Fusitu'a is the NRL's leading try-scorer (8). The Warriors have racked up the most offloads of any team (105) but also the most missed tackles (269). They have four 40/20 kicks as a team - three more than their nearest rivals.

Storm stat attack: It may come as a surprise that Melbourne have more handling errors (34) than any other team. Most of those occurred in the first month or so when the Storm were struggling. Coach Craig Bellamy would be happy his team reduced their error rate in the past two games.

And another thing: There's nothing like an Anzac Day game to stir up feelings of national pride and respect for those who fought for our freedom long before most of us were born. No matter how many times you hear The Last Post this week, take a moment to listen and think.

Head-to-head: Played 40; Storm 22wins, Warriors 16 wins, 2 draw
Matches at venue: Played 8; Storm 5 wins, Warriors 3 wins
2017 results: Storm won 26-10 at Mt Smart Stadium in round 2 and 20-14 at AAMI Park in round 8
Points per game: Storm 23.1; Warriors 23.1
Points conceded per game: Storm 14.4; Warriors 14.9

Shaun Johnson and Solomone Kata ran at training today but were not passed fit to play.

Should be a good thing from a Storm perspective, however they have already proven that they don’t need these guys to still put in a strong performance.

Is everyone going to this game. Usually we have whingeing storm fans on here every year who hate this game because the warriors fans boo our players and they can't handle a bit of noise.

It’s because they do all this “Chaaaaa-hooo” bullshit during the last post. They are like giant children with ADD who cannot keep quiet for a minute. That infuriates me like nothing else and can’t stand it.
