Halftime 22-4 to our boys...sorry, Bulldogs twitter page could only name their own try scorer Marcelo Montoya, so I cant say who scored for the Thunderbolts.

It’s early days, but the Victorian Rugby League are surprise ladder leaders in Pool A of the Cyril Connell Cup following their solid win over Redcliffe at Dolphin Oval last Saturday.

The visiting team had five individual try scorers in their 24-14 win; while on Sunday, Capras halfback Ryan Flintham crossed for four tries in his side’s 30-16 victory over Toowoomba.

He was not the only CQ player to score four tries in a match, with Trai Fuller from the club’s Mal Meninga Cup side joining him in the try-scoring display.

The Under 18 side overall proved too strong for the Clydesdales, claiming a 44-22 win.

Other Pool B results in the Mal Meninga Cup saw the Sunshine Coast Falcons post an impressive 42-6 win over the Central Crows at Kawana on Sunday, with Reed Mahoney scoring a hat trick and Connor McCabe crossing for a double.

On Saturday, the Bishop Park crowd saw the home side Norths Devils prove too strong for the Magpies (pictured) in their 42-22 win; with the result pushing them to the top of Pool A.

This weekend, Souths Logan will look to bounce back when they host Victoria Rugby League at Civic Park, Logan Brothers. With both teams looking to get their first win on the board, it shapes as a good contest.

Elsewhere across the state, Pool A sides Easts Tigers, Ipswich Jets and Wynnum Manly Seagulls and Pool B’s Mackay Cutters will get their first chance to impress in both grade this weekend.

The Cutters face a tough assignment for their first game and will travel to the Sunshine Coast to take on the confident Falcons.

At North Ipswich Reserve, the Jets will host Wynnum Manly as both clubs get their season underway. The young sides will play as part of a big day of football at the venue, with the FOGS Colts and Intrust Super Cup games between the clubs to follow later in the day.
