Two Storm players named in Sharks NSW Cup team this week are Mahe Fonua and Richie Fa'aoso. There are also two ex-Storm players named: Jake Hawkins (no surprise) and Sam Tagataese. Although based on article Sallymay posted in Raiders game thread Mahe may be at AAMI.

The Board of the New South Wales Rugby League has today announced that 13 teams will compete in the 2013 VB NSW Cup competition.

The Board also endorsed Wyong’s application for the 2013 season and reiterated an edict from the VB NSW Cup Management Committee to work with representatives from the Albury Thunder and Melbourne Storm to ensure they fulfil all the necessary criteria ahead of the 2014 season.

“Wyong’s entry into the VB NSW Cup and the thought of Albury entering in the near future is a real positive for this competition,” NSWRL General Manager, Geoff Carr, said.

“Newcastle’s return this year, along with Canberra’s partnership with Mounties, helped strengthen the competition to the point where we had twelve teams vying for a finals berth in the last few rounds of the regular season.

“The competition also produced 36 debutants for the Telstra Premiership which was an increase of five from the 2011 season and significantly more than the other second tier competitions.”

Following on from the success of the Newtown and Windsor match in Parkes this year, the NSWRL will also be looking to take several VB NSW Cup fixtures to country areas in season 2013.

The calendar will again feature special events throughout the season with double and triple headers planned for various weekends during the regular season.

It is envisaged the 2013 VB NSW Cup draw will be released to the participating Clubs and public by the end of November.

2013 participating VB NSW Cup Clubs and their affiliates:

VB NSW Cup team- NRL Affiliate
Auckland Vulcans - Warriors
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs - Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs
Cronulla Sharks - Cronulla Sharks/Melbourne Storm
Illawarra Cutters - St George Illawarra Dragons
Manly Warringah Sea Eagles - Manly Warringah Sea Eagles
Mounties - Canberra Raiders
Newcastle Knights - Newcastle Knights
Newtown Jets - Sydney Roosters
North Sydney Bears - South Sydney Rabbitohs
Wentworthville Magpies - Parramatta Eels
Wests Tigers - Wests Tigers
Windsor Wolves - Penrith Panthers
Wyong Roos - Stand alone
Looks like the Storm are trying to get a feeder team based in Albury up and running for 2014. That would be good for the development of game in southern NSW & northern Victoria. I hope we still maintain a link to the Easts Tigers as well.
