To me not having a sponsor to start the season isnt an issue.
You'll probably find potential sponsors were trying to low-ball us and you dont want to de-value your name.

A lady called up the Wednesday 2/2/11 edition of 3AW's Rumourfile and stated that Crown will be announced as our sponsor this coming Friday. We shall wait and seestorming wrote:"It wasn't so long ago that we had Crown wanting to sponsor us!"
would be a good idea, souths just signed with star city, so it doesnt seem to be a problem promoting a gambling organisation!
They'd be an exccellent sponsor to come on board and wouldn't be at all surprised if it goes ahead. Not only because as mentioned already we were meant to be in talks months ago, but also given now Star City have taken over as Souffs major sponsor it'd be a great move by Crown to counter that by fronting the jersey of a rival club in the same code. I'm sure it'd piss SC off no end as well
Brilliant news if it happens.

Packer's Crown to take a punt on Storm

CROWN CASINO will be unveiled as the new naming rights sponsor of the Melbourne Storm today.
As revealed in the Herald in May last year, Melbourne Storm opened negotiations with James Packer's casino after major sponsors abandoned the club for systemic salary cap rorting.
Joint major sponsors ME Bank and superannuation fund HostPlus cancelled deals worth an estimated $900,000 a season.
Advertisement: Story continues below A third sponsor, sportswear company Skins, also walked out on the club in April last year after the NRL stripped the Storm of two premierships and three minor premierships for salary cap breaches.
After almost nine months of discussions with Crown, the club is expected to call a press conference this morning to announce the new major sponsorship deal.
The deal is expected to run until the 2013 season.
ME Bank had the rights to the front of the Storm's jersey until the end of this season, while HostPlus had the rights to the back of the jersey until November next year. ME Bank has since become a major sponsor of AFL club Richmond.
Just six weeks out from the NRL season, the only major partner of the embattled Storm is Jayco Caravans, the company of sacked club director Gerry Ryan. The relationship between Jayco and Storm has lasted 12 years, but there is no guarantee the company will continue to financially support the club.
Crown has had ties with the Storm for several years. The club has held numerous fund-raising events at the casino, including mid-season and end-of-year balls.
Last April, a Storm spokesman confirmed that ''more general sponsorship discussions'' had taken place with Crown.
The deal could not come at a better time for the embattled management of Storm, still picking up the pieces of Brian Waldron's reign as chief executive.
Asked if Crown was the club's new major sponsorship partner, Melbourne boss Ron Gauci refused to comment
