Cake mix ???

Needs to get fit and move to the back-row if he wants a 1st grade career.

I think Sally will be right, if Quinn isnt ready Bronx Goodwin will be the other winger I think unless J. O'Niell or Matt Duffie have a massive pre-season.

Storm of interest in signing Taranaki teen
By GLENN McLEAN - Taranaki Daily News Last updated 05:00 02/12/2009
MARK DWYER/Taranaki Daily NewsSTORM CHASER: Jesse Parete signed a Melbourne Storm rugby league contract last week.

Teen rugby league player Jesse Parete had four Australian clubs chasing him last week.

In the end, the 16-year-old New Plymouth Boys' High School boarder put his signature on a four-year deal with champion National Rugby League club the Melbourne Storm.

It has been a dramatic rise for the Manaia teenager, who took up the sport only 18 months ago after he found himself getting frustrated with his lack of progress in rugby.

Parete, who plays in the second row for the Normanby Knights in the Taranaki under-18 grade, was spotted by several league scouts while playing for Taranaki at a national Maori age-group tournament in Rotorua earlier this year.

After being approached by Auckland-based agent Stan Martin, a highlights package of his performances in a later national age-group tournament were put on DVD and sent to several NRL clubs. The response was dramatic. Not only did Parete have the premiership-winning Storm club courting his services, but also the Warriors, the Newcastle Knights and Penrith Panthers all wanted him on their payroll.

In the end, the Storm's offer of a four-year deal, combined with its reputation for looking after its new recruits, swung the deal for Parete and his mother, Manaia sole-charge Constable Mary Parete.

He will travel to Melbourne for four days in February for a variety of medical and physical tests, and he will receive a training programme for the next 12 months.

After that, he will return to Australia's second-largest city in 2011 to live for a year with a Melbourne Storm "family" who will foster him while he plays for the club's colts side.

Parete was nervous, as well as excited, about the prospect of joining the club. "It's just really good to have the chance to try and play for a NRL team," Parete said.

Just a suggestion, maybe take the 08-09 off the Thread title but keep this for all signings.

Hope this doesn't end the same way as Lavea - Another rugby player who went to RL because he was " frustrated with his lack of progress in rugby "

Fromt the Sydney Telegraph 23.12.09 - BRONX Goodwin is poised to wear the jumper his father "Lord" Ted Goodwin made famous, with the Dragons snaring the former Shark and Raider for season 2010.
Wayne Bennett signed the outside back to a deal last week that will make him the first Goodwin to play for the Dragons since his father became a cult figure for the Red V in the 1970s.

Looks like Goodwin is going to St George not to Melbourne as had been reported.

Interesting snippet in todays Sydney rag

Hawkes said there were quite a few people interested in Willie, not surprisingly, and his future plans.

And Willie's fellow forward Jason Havea is already one to have got away from rugby. He will join the NRL and has been contracted to the Melbourne Storm for four years.

From reading the Eels forum on LU apparently Mitchel Johnson was released for disciplinary reasons and we have signed him. He turns 20 this year but don't know if we signed him for NSW Cup or U/20s.
His profile on the Eels site.

MELBOURNE Storm officials believe they might have found the next Israel Folau with the signing 15-year-old local Richard Kennar to a long-term deal.

The Year 10 student from Craigieburn stands 180cm, weighs more than 90kg and has starred for the club's under-18 team, which today begins its SG Ball Cup finals campaign with a sudden-death clash against Penrith in Sydney.

Kennar has made the leap from suburban rugby league to playing against the best young talent in NSW and his abilities have excited Storm.

He is one of 11 Victorians in the 17-man team that compiled a 7-2 win-loss record this season and coach Kim Williams predicted Kennar could go on to big things.

"He only turned 15 in December and has been outstanding as a winger and centre. The club has him earmarked as potentially a very big star," Williams said.

"He has really kicked on in this program and we don't like to make comparisons, but he is in the Israel Folau mould.

"Even in the pre-season you could see him improve rapidly under good coaching. We could see he was something special, and he has grown in stature each week.

"He is outplaying guys who are three years older than him.

"He is so young and so good, already. He is ticking all the boxes."

Williams' team reached the final last year and of that successful group, five Victorians progressed to the club's under-20 squad this year.

He expects a similar number of locals to make the leap at the end of this season.

"The club is certainly focused on that pathway for the youngsters and the number should only increase as the quality of players gets better," he said.

I have yet to see the SG Ball team this year, but Kennar looks the goods and what's even better is the fact he is a local boy.

Storm should look at poaching St Kevins fly-half Nua

made countless rep-teams and IIRC he plays for wyndham city rugby union team

is a year 10 and was the target of a bidding frenzy by Carey Grammar and St Kevins for a scholarship.

playing Div1 first XV, played against him today and he is basically a one man team, no missed tackles. good kicker. very good positional play and read of the game and also a lethal stepping game too.
