2016 Dally M Awards - 28th September
Just a place to discuss the awards.
Wednesday night ceremony.
Obviously with us being the minor premiers and one half of the grand final, you'd expect us to snag our fair share of awards unless those who vote are unable to mask their disdain for the club.
Club already has one award in the bag with Suli finishing the leading tryscorer.
Cronk, Smith, Harris and Bromwich should all be in the team of the year. I'd like Munster to have at least a nomination for fullback.
Suli a reasonable shot for rookie.
Craig a chance for coach but I'd be fine with Stuart winning that.
Smith captain and rep player of the year.
Smith/Cronk to win the big gong. Josh Hodgson probably the only realistic chance of stealing it from them.

Suli has to get leading try scorer because of the fact he did it. We will get plenty of nominations, but will win very little. If Smith or Cronk win the Dally M they will get the positional award, but if they do not win that will not happen.
Thurston will get halfback, Hodgson will get hooker, Taylor (the halfback) from the Titans will get rookie of the year, Gallen or Crocker will get captain of the year. Stuart/Griffin/Flanagan coach of the year. Smith might get rep player, but there is Parker or Thurston. Bromwich is our best chance with Prop of the year. Sydney media votes these awards and they do not like us.
The Phil Gould commentary last night was worse than when he is supporting NSW in origin.
Ray Warren has called one Storm game this year. How is he going to know the players names next week. I think we should send him a cheat sheet because he will have no idea who they are, not that anyone in Sydney or Channel nine will care.

Taumalolo also a good chance of getting the big one. I'd love it if Neil Henry won the coaches award considering Titans were favourites for the spoon at the start of the year but managed to make it to the finals. I think Ash Taylor or Nathan Cleary for rookie of the year over Suli but I'm glad he'll get a nod for most tries anyway as he's had a phenomenal season.

Warren will not need a cheat sheet. He will commentate the way he always has - " the half back offloads it for the 17".

I remember in one of the rare games of ours he's called he said of Kenny Bromwich "I believe he prefers Ken" - and went on to call him Ken Bromwich for the rest of the game.

Cooper a special
Remember this day, men, for it will be yours for all time
Suli missing out - Fair enough.
Cam missing out on Captain - Bit tough to swallow.
Craig missing out - F*cking joke and reflective of the arbitrary nature of the Dally Ms.
This is IMO, Craig's best ever year as coach.
1. He lost the Storm, QLD and Australian fullback in round 1.
2. A million dollar black hole in our salary cap ALL year.
3. We had an outside back injury crisis in the opening third of the year... The waterboy was probably close to being thrown a jersey.
4. We had a forward injury crisis in the back third of the year.
5. We still finished minor premiers.
6. We still finished with the best defensive record in NRL era history.
7. We still made another GF.
8. We yet again had a number of journeymen players reach career best form.
Taking nothing away from the Raiders who had a great year... but again this year, most of the 'experts' pre-season had us missing the top 8. Too old, etc etc.
Makes no sense.
