Re: Round 1 vs Panthers @ AAMI Park
In terms of defence… Meaney 12th Minute - Meaney comes in when he doesn’t need to and May breaks the line, running 30m. 60th Minute - Taylan May shrugs off Meaney. Cover defence tackles May. 71st Minute - Panthers overlap and Taylan May looks likely to score but trips over his own feet. For some rea...

Re: Round 1 vs Panthers @ AAMI Park
Watched the replay. Specifically wanted to take another look at our centres. I was skeptical of Meaney playing there this year and Reimis doesn’t get much love from Storm fans (I rate him though). Overall, I think both guys did an excellent job. Izack Tago and Taylan May look to be the most damaging...

Re: Round 1 vs Panthers @ AAMI Park
I think after last year with Trent on the edge, Bellamy knows we need more attacking effort on both edges. It can’t be all Eli again…
Joe looked strong early. But then he went quiet and his defence fell away and reading between the lines from Bellamy, I think he was disappointed with that.

Re: Round 1 vs Panthers @ AAMI Park
I would think that Sua could only play in the starting line as a 1. With time and experience, he might be able to be an effective ball running 6. Outside of fullback, the super sub approach seems his most likely route into first grade and then see how the season pans out with injuries and opportunit...

Re: Round 1 vs Panthers @ AAMI Park
No chance I would drop Warbrick for Sua - and I love Sua. Forget the metres stat alone, Warbrick took tough carries all night when we were parked on our try line, often the first carry off a turnover/slow play the ball when the defence were in our face. Those are the toughest carries in RL. As amazi...

Re: Round 1 vs Panthers @ AAMI Park
The obstruction was the correct call, regardless of Panther fans tears online.
Hughes may not have been impeded, however Meaney turns in on a man he otherwise wouldn’t have needed to. Panther player ran behind his own man. Stop crying and accept it.

Re: Round 1 vs Panthers @ AAMI Park
Yep, Coates was my MOTM. Excellent effort on both sides of the ball. Great defensive game from the boys. I will say that the Panthers blew a couple of tries, but so did we. If we can do that consistently this year, we win a lot more games than we lose. Proud of that one… The duck egg against the Pan...

Re: Official thread and signing news
I don’t know how we have landed where we have but I can’t see any quick fixes. It’s gonna take some time, and that’s even if the club appreciates the scale of the problem (which I am not convinced).

Re: Official thread and signing news
In days gone, we had our superstar spine, a strong but underrated pack, a number of young guns pushing for first grade and supplemented by a couple of journey men / outcasts. Today we still have the superstar spine, but the pack has completely fallen apart, there is only one genuine youngster pushin...

Re: 2023, The post mortem
Hughes is the only logical choice for captain in my opinion. But I said that same thing this time last year as well.

I’ll tune in for that but that’ll be it. I genuinely could not have less interest in the NRL GF.

It’s almost as if the post season went exactly as predicted. Funny that.

Re: Rep Squads and Awards
Yeah I don’t think we pick up anything this year. Harry might snag the Hooker award, but I’m not convinced it would be entirely deserved this year.
Harry’s defence is a not spoken about problem we are going to have to address at some point.

Re: 2023, The post mortem
Post mortem is appropriate phrasing. My autopsy results are simply that our season died around Round 10 and we have been “Weekend at Bernies”-ing since then.
